The only green canyon in the world - even worth the astounding views when visiting in Winter. Make sure to go!

When driving the Panorama Route we stopped at several points to see Blyde River Canyon. The view is beautiful. The canyon is the 3rd largest canyon in the world. Definitely a must see when going to this part of South Africa.

Words and photos will never be sufficient to describe the views. Even the panorama setting on the camera doesn't do it justice. Wear good walking shoes and plan on spending a little time just sitting and absorbing the sight before you.

Do take a jacket. If it is windy, it can be a bit chilly depending on the weather.

Now this is a site for sore eyes. the landscape is absolutely amazing. The best view of the canyon is probably from the Three Rondavels, it is truly majestic. The greenery makes it all the more beautiful to look at.

A definite must do whilst in Mpumulanga

The last time we visited the Blyde River Canyon was when we were courting 32 years ago. Still have a photo with the 3 Rondawels in the background. The canyon is as spectacular as ever and the visit to the lookout point is well worth the visit. While the dam was quite empty there had been enough rain for the vegetation to be green and lush. The lookout points are well protected and the pathways well defined and paved. However, not very accessible for the disabled visitors.
