“winter time”
Reviewed 4 July 2012

The rooms are quite a relief, after a long day. From the outside it does not look to well, but once in the room, a different story. The Hotel itself is rather boring, and the one night we were only 3 in the restaurant and were only then told that there will be no buffet and were given a menu, the food was dull and cold. will not stay there again for such a long time, 2 nights max.

Room Tip: rooms facing the pool, are the best.

Dear 460TheBlond,

We much appreciate your honest feedback via TripAdvisor but sincerely regret the fact that the Protea Hotel Hazyview and the TEAM have not been able to exceed your expectations. I must admit that during winter time in Mpumalanga, we occasionally don't lay out our sumptuous buffet due to limited GUEST numbers on certain nights.

I am however pleased to announce that our a la carte menu at the hotel is currently being revamped and re-launched in a few weeks. So, I am sure we will further improve our dining experience at our lovely hotel and would love to entertain you and your party upon your return to the region in summer. Your kind comments on our room standards are greatly valued.

Looking forward to welcoming you back soon.

Warm regards,

Vanessa Hoover – General manager

The Protea Hotel Hazyview is a spectacular place to stay if you want to be close to the Kruger National Park, and still have a luxury stay. The staff at the hotel are amazing, and give outstanding service, and the rooms are luxurious and spacious. It is situated right off the road to Hazyview, and offers excellent cuisine and service.

Room Tip: Ask for a room close to the swimming pool - this will ensure beautiful vistas and peace and quiet.

I did not have a bungalow but a room inside the main hotel and it was very spacious. I enjoyed the beautifully landscaped grounds and used the swimming pool. I did miss not having access to Wi-Fi in my room but not really necessary when on vacation. The only improvement would be to speed up the breakfast line.

Fourth time our family has stayed at this hotel and once again spacious room, food, service and environment up to the highest standard at a very reasonable price. We stayed dinner, bed and breakfast and the food choice and quality was great. During the day and evening it was great to sit out behind the bar area and look down across the excellent pool to the hills beyond. The hotel WiFi was free so able to keep in touch with family in UK and SA and hotel is well placed for access to Kruger Park via Numbi Gate and the Panorama route via Sabie or Graskop. Recommend the Elephant Sanctuary on the Sabie Road where we learnt a lot about eles and got to ride them - super experience. Definitely stay there again next time we are in Mpumalanga to drink the excellent wine and the super milkshakes!

Room Tip: Rooms out the back are quiet and you can sit in front of your room next to the lawn and watch the mo...

A very nice experience. Everything was perfect apart from the WiFi which did not work for 2 days and no-one had any clue hos to get it up and running again. We stayed in a thatched roof bungalow and everything was perfect in there, it was a nice experience to see the monkeys running up and down the roof. The (buffet) restaurant was OK, but not more than that. The staff was excellent and they did everything possible to make our stay enjoyable. Just 1 waitress insisted on a cash tip, but this is Africa ...

Room Tip: We did like the privacy and especially the size and atmosphereof the "thatched roof bungalow&qu...

Hi TVCBelgium,

Even though I am convinced the views in Kasterlee, Belgium will be amazing as well, I do agree with you that its hard to beat the views across the hills of Hazyview... I still enjoy it myself each and every day.

Thank you so much for the kind comments in your review, your feedback on the buffet dinner is noted and will be discussed with senior management.

Looking forward to welcoming you back to Hazyview soon!

My room was beautiful and critter-free, though it smelled musty. I know others who weren't so lucky. My suggestion? Email them ahead of time and tell them you dont want a room with a thatched roof or an externally facing room. Those were the rooms where they ended up with unwanted guests. Wifi in the bar area only. Do drink the Amarula.

Hi Dragonlady15,

Good to hear you enjoyed your room and have had the opportunity to taste our famous African liquor "Amarula". Arguable the best drink to sip on while enjoying a beautiful sun downer on our lapa terrace.

Hope we can welcome you back soon (without too much inconveniences caused by some of the Hazyview’s frogs, lizards and critters…

I stayed here for two nights with a tour group.
My room, in the main building, was spacious, well-appointed and comfortable, though I feel the cleaning could have been a bit more thorough.
The grounds are attractively planted with a range of flowering trees and shrubs and there is a good view of the surrounding countryside.
The staff were helpful.
I appreciated the free, unlimited computer use.
