Revisited. Hotel still well maintained & clean. Beautiful well manicured gardens. Rooms clean, most important linen crisp clean. Downside: ping pong table close to room, noisy kids! Otherwise an enjoyable & secure stay.

A welcome return to Sabie River after an absence of over 20 years. The Timeshare bungalows are very comfortable, well-equipped, and serviced daily.
The setting is lush, teeming with birdlife, and with crocodiles and hippos in the dams just a few yards away. If you know and love the "sounds of Africa" (frogs, crickets, hippos, fish-eagle) then thiis is the place.
The resort has matured beautifully, the golf course is well-kept, fairly informal, and a good challenge. Staff are smiling, helpful and friendly.
We will certainly be back, as it is not only thoroughly relaxing, but a great base to tour the highlights of the Lowveld and the Kruger National Park.

We visited the Sabi Sun River hotel on March 30th 2013. It was the worst hotel experience we have had ever! It took several visits to the reception and more than 30 min to get inside our room as the lock of the door did not work. Finally the maintenance was able to open the door. They promised to fix the lock while we were playing golf (greens were in terrible conditions). When we came back five hours later from golf the lock was still broken and we could not get in. Housekeeping etc. tried to help us but nobody could open the door as even the master key did not work. Finally, the maintenance guy climbed to the balcony of our room and opened the room door from inside! This process took more than an hour and my wife did not get her diabetes and heart failure medication in time. We were given on opportunity to change the room. However, it turned out that housekeeping was not able to open the door for us. We decided not to change the room and one of us always stayed in and opened the door from inside (forgot the dinner together). When discussing with the other customers they told that almost every room in the hotel has the same problem. Like us they were not informed about the problem when checking in. I discussed with the GM who neglected the problem. In our opinion it is a serious safety problem if the doors cannot be opened even with the master key. It would be a disaster if someone gets heart attack and the paramedics could not get in to the room with no delay. Likewise, it may create serious problems if a child gets locked in and the parents cannot open the door. So, before booking a room in this place make sure that the locks have been replaced.

Visited recently with family, used the resort as a place to base ourselves as we spent our days exploring Kruger. We didn't eat at the restaurant, but we did enjoy the pools. The pools were clean and warm... my (10 yr old) son was thrilled. Our cottage was also very nice. WiFi service was terrible at our room, but that's ok - we weren't there to watch youtube! Our cottage overlook the rough and was directly across from the hippo viewing area. How awesome was that? Hippos, crocks and various birds were right outside our room, 150m away. The entire resort seems to be based around golf - although I hardly ever saw anyone playing. Personally I would have been happier if there wasn't golf and the landscape was a little more natural, but this is a very minor complaint. The cottage was comfortable, the grounds well maintained and the location perfect for us. I would recommend this place to friends or family.

The resort is quite accomodating and restful. Staff were friendly and helpful. Has a adequet golf course and is about 20km oustide of the Kruger national park. Rooms were clean and neat. There were various activities close to the resort like zip lines and qaud biking which was really cool!!

getting the from Johannesburg International was tiring but worth the drive because the scenery was fantastic

Room Tip: ask for rooms on the first floor as walking up or down the stairs can be tiresome.

Great resort close to KNP. Challenging golf course, spacious accommodation (chalets) mediocre food and service. Nice SPA although a little basic for a hotel of this calibre. Service in the restaurant good but reception staff did not really demonstrate they wanted to help with any of our queries / problems. On check out, we were not asked how we enjoyed our stay or we weren't thanked for our business. as soon as I paid the bill, the receptionist turned away from me and started talking to a colleague in their own language. This might seem petty, but it would probably prevent me from going back there. There are too many fine places to stay at in the area. Main pool was ok, pool by the Hippo's looked very murky, I would not swim in it. There was a group staying in the Hotel during our stay and they seemed to be the only important people in the resort while they were there.
