My wife and i stayed at Hippo Hollow for 6 days in july 2012 for my 40th b day, from the moment we arrived, to the moment we said goodbye, the service and kindness of all the staff was fantastic.we stayed in a river facing chalet which was spacious, clean & comfortable plus great for viewing wildlife, we saw Hippo,Crocs, moniter lizard, bats, otters,& lots of colourful birds.just from our very large balcony where we would sit and watch the sun go down.local places to visit are Elephant Whispers educational and fun a must.Moholoho rehab centre is also well worth a visit,we got to stroke a Cheetah, sit with a baby Rhino, see Lions,Leopards, feed Vultures, plus many other animals.we went on a walking Safari,Full day Safari, and a Sunset Safari all very different expieriences, and all amazing,we managed to see all the animals easily. The Panarama route is beautiful see Gods window, the Potholes, and have a pancake in Graskop, dont worry about Pilgrims rest it is very run down. Hot Air Balloon trip expensive but unforgettable, lift gently and watch the sunrise, then land for champagne breakfast.last but not least the Shangaan evening at Hippo Hollow with dancing, singing, music and tasty traditional food.thankyou everyone for a unforgettable stay Terry&Kelly Doyle

Room Tip: take adapters 3 pin round, plus if going in winter the mornings are a little fresh so wrap up,but by...

This is a pretty "basic" hotel lodging. It looked a bit run down, but perfectly adequate for a quick stay. The room was large, and had an upstairs loft with two additional beds. There was a kitchenette and a small refrigerator. The front desk had no adapters nor did they have an international adapter so that we could charge our cameras etc. We did not eat at the hotel as we got there late, and left early. We chose this place because it was 45 min to the airport, and for this, it was an acceptable lodging.

I checked into this place after a long dirve from Joberg. It was around 11 pm and I knew I would be off to Kruger at 6 am. I didn't have a reservation but I wanted a hotel close to Kruger and so I just drove around and looked for one. Upon entering I asked how much for a night and was told approximately $120 USD and I said that was to much. The receptionist agreed to $100 USD. I thought the price should be cheaper because the place looks a little run down, but because I was tired I agreed to the price.
I was given a courtyard room with a pool view. The room was fine. It was two full beds pushed together to make one king. The mattress was hard and thread count was low.
The room did not have any easily accessible electrical outlet. There was one plug behind the tv counsel.

I would not stay here again, but it is not a bad place to stay. My room looked like a 1970's Holiday Inn. The hotel does not look like the pictures. The hotel needs to be updated. I would guess that is typically sold as a part of economy package tour.

My wife and I facilitated a 2 day team unity building conference here - in 2012 - for the Mbabane Municipality, and were most impressed by the venue, the people, the service and how we were able to see hippos - in the evening on the banks of the Sabie River.

The traditional African dancing - was awesome!

It was a memorable stay for us.

Room Tip: Look for the rooms overlooking the Sabie river.

My husband and I stayed at Hippo Hollow from June 8-11,2012. We loved everything about our stay. When we arrived, we were greeted by the most friendly and helpful people. We stayed in a hotel room and it was very large and very clean. The food is fantastic and the property not only has hippos but also water monitors, vervet monkeys, crocodiles and a wide variety of birds. Our only regret is that we didn't stay here for our entire stay in South Africa. When our son graduates high school in two years, we are planning to take our son back to South Africa and the only place we will be staying at is Hippo Hollow. Mary & Mike D.

We stayed at Hippo Hollow on a trip with Riviera Travel and really enjoyed it.
The check in was quick and efficient and we were soon in our room. Luckily we had a shower straight away..it was on the cool side...but the water ran out soon after. It was the whole of Hazyview, not just the hotel. It can back on during the night and we had free wine to compensate!
The rooms were nice, the food was good and the young hippo on the lawn at night was cute.
The staff were very nice appart from 1 rather sharp lady on reception

Within two minutes of settling in to our river chalet we saw a crocodile in the river below. Not long after a Monitor Lizard. As we sat out on the veranda towards dusk, Insect bats flitted across our heads to feed. A cancophany of ducks, geese and other birds brought evening to a close. One evening whilst enjoying a drink of wine we witnessed hippos making their way down the river. If you love nature and are not afraid to get up close, then you will enjoy Hippo Hollow. The food served in the restaurant was to a high standard and we were free to cook outside our chalet if we chose. Staff provided us with excellent support when facilitating some early morning game drives including knocking on the door to wake us and supplying a breakfast pack.

The river chalets have no TV and no telephone link to main reception. If you want peace and quiet and to be left to do your own thing, and you are a nature lover, then you will enjoy Hippo Hollow.
