Great situation - for the Kruger AND by a fast flowing river. Called Hippo Hollow for good reason - hippos promenade along the river bank and pose for photos under the lights most evenings! Didn't see any crocs though.................!
The rooms that we saw were large and airey, clean and well situated around the main bar/restaurant block. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Prices very reasonable for a captive audience. We only stayed 3 nights as part of a wonderful Riviera Travel tour - but enjoyed ourselves immensely. We happily recommend the hotel.

Hippo Hollow is very well located if you are touring the area and particularly convenient for Kruger National Park.

Similar to so many places in South Africa the staff are amazingly helpful, as long as you approach them with a smile, they will engage in friendly conversation and help with whatever your needs.

The restaurant and bar are beautifully positioned on the bank of the Sabie River at a bend where the water swirls past. The food was great, even when they were full and even when it rained, there was enough cover for everyone.

There is an on site attraction with local dancing etc which is OK, but not great. If you haven't seen it before probably worth a visit, but wonderful.

There is decent satellite TV in the bar which will let you catch those vital sports events too!

The pool looked OK but not massively inviting.

Now the bad bits, the rooms are OK, but not great. They have polished concrete floors (which I like!) but they are damp and there is a pervasive damp smell which is not great. Having said that the rooms are a decent size, nice shower and A/C if you can find it does work. The extractor fan comes on with the lights and sounds like a jet engine in the next room!

Good pricing.

Overall we did enjoy the stay and it worked fine - given the reasonable price, great location, great bar and restaurant it was fine despite the rooms.....I'm talking myself into upgrading the scores!

Loved this place.

We came as a group and all of our rooms where overlooking the river. The rooms are authentic, as they should be, this is africa, and this feels like africa. I would reccomed this hotel to anyone who wants to have a true experience of this part of the world rather than a modern generic hotel chain.

The staff are super friendly, the food and drinks are very reasonably priced. The outdoor dining area overlooks the main part of the river and you can often view hippo and other animals local to this area from here.

The hotel is in a great location in hazyview for exploring the local sights. We did the panaramic tour taking in the Blyde River Canyon. we also visited the eliphant whisperers which is not something you should miss. There are many other attractions around here including the cheetah project.

Definitely worth a few nights stay while en route to Krugar.

I loved this place! We had our own cottage, the scenery is fabulous and in the evening the Hippos come out! We were sitting on the restaurant patio and the sun had just gone down when 3 hippos came out! A guard makes sure that they don't get too close to you as they are wild animals!! This is very close to Krueger National Park and just watching birds and we also saw a crocodile just hanging out! If you have time of which we did not but you can ride elephants very close to this place. Staff is great!

Room Tip: See if you can get in one of the cottages that overlooks the river.

Stayed here for 3 nights on our tour of SA whilst visiting Kruger National Park. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. The location of the Hotel on the Sabie River was amazing, the hippo's were grazing on the hotels lawns.
We didn't see any crocs fortunately.
Would recommend this hotel and would stay here again.

My son and I spent one night at Hippo Hollow before moving to an expensive resort in Sabi Sands. We had a cottage right on top of the Sabie River. We watched a mother hippo and her baby play in the river almost the entire time we were there.

The room has two twin beds downstairs and a loft with two more twin beds. There is an overhead fan but no air conditioning. Because there are no screens we kept the windows and doors shut the entire time. For that reason the room was slightly musty, but it did not bother me or my son. We were just so thrilled to see hippos so close and for such an extended time.

The restaurant was excellent as was the service. However, there is a kitchenette in the unit so one could cook if they wished.

We would definitely stay at Hippo Hollow again because it is such a good deal.

Room Tip: Absolutely get a room overlooking the river. We watched a mother hippo and her baby play in the wat...

This hotel affords a warm welcome and has a fantastic situation on the banks of the River Sabie. A real Out of Africa experience. Staff are friendly and helpful. Rooms are a bit quirky and vary a lot. My room had a gecko in the fuse box which kept interrupting the power supply! Food OK could be better. The best thing are the hippos that come up on to the lawn a few metres away from where guests are enjoying their sundowners and continue to munch grass outside whilst you enjoy your dinner!

Room Tip: overlooking the river
