My friends and I visited this beautiful resort in June 2014.

We got a very nice bungalow, with breathtaking views.

The rooms and nice and cosy.We had a 8 sleeper bungalow, which was bigger than we thought.
Excellent self catering kitchen with all the necessary kitchen appliances! Unfortunately, the previous people didn't clean the dishwasher, which was quite dirty and smelled quite bad.

The living room and dining room area is open plan with a nice fire place. It helped with the cold South African winter evenings. They sell wood on the premises. Quite enough for a few evenings.

The bathrooms were nice and clean. The shower was very nice and water pressure was very strong.

The barbecue or braai was very nice and situated on the main deck overlooking the mountains and the forest.

All in all a very nice place. We would love to return!

We thouroughly enjoyed Chrystal Springs Mountain Lodge. We has a 2 bed, 2 bathroom apartment which was well fitted out. There are larger units available.

One does not have to leave the resort - they have a game drive, lovely hikes, putt-putt, tennis, squash, gym, swimming pools, jacuzzi (book!) and a wonderful indoor heated pool plus sauna and steam room.

It was a wonderful week-end!

The restaurant is fine although we only had light meals and there is also a shop onsite,
Wood bundles are available either for the indoor fireplace or the outdoor braai.

Staff are pleasant and we would love to go back.

Highly recommended,

I have rated this property 4, but leaning towards 3. My daughter was deciding vote, as she really enjoyed our week there. We had a lovely weather to help, but this cannot be one of the positives of the resort itself. We liked the outdoors, but the chalet itself was a bit of let down. So chalet gets 3 and location and grounds 5 and we come to the average 4.
Renovations obviously done to the property looked rushed, cheep and not of the same design and quality as the original features. I hope that bathroom was not designed by an architect or an interior decorator, as I am certain my 9-year old would do a much better job of it. Generally, I was not happy with quality and maintenance of fixtures and fittings at the chalet.
Having said the previous, the views from the balcony are beautiful, gardens and outdoor facilities well maintained and nice.
Restaurant and shop are run independently, so my rating does not include these. I just want to mention that at both, we have received good service, but the restaurant food was not up to expected standard and the shop prices were a rip off.
Club house is lovely. Games room is well equipped, but a bit dungeon-like, very dark and attached to the laundry room. Really not necessary, considering how much space this property occupies. Loved the animals, both wild animals and domesticated cats.
Would I recommend this property? Probably yes, if one is prepared to lower down expectations of any luxury and decides just to relax and to enjoy the beautiful nature.

Visited in April on our way back from Maditlo Lodge where we were spoiled with spotless accommodation and personal attention.
After this, Chrystal Springs was a huge let-down.
On arrival you are stopped at the gate to fill in a fairly lengthy form which requires details of everyone in the car and also needs to be signed by each individual. The feeling that this is a bit of an overkill is reinforced when you finally get to the end of the booking-in queue at reception and have to fill in a whole lot of stuff all over again. The feeling that it is all a bit impersonal is overcome a bit by the helpful receptionists, but that is about as far as friendliness goes.
We were given the key to our apartment which, to be fair, had a great view although not quite as nice as the chalets we passed. But welcoming it was not! Curtains had not been opened and the apartment had not been aired in anticipation of our arrival. No welcoming note on the pillow - nothing to show that they were actually expecting guests. Sort of, here's your key, now get on with it! And make sure you obey the rules, of which there are plenty!
The apartment had not been well cleaned, the carpets were grubby (being kind here), there were hairs in the bath, and the room stank of smoke as the fire-place was full of old uncleaned ashes. The cleaner may have been, but obviously no-one checks. All in all it made us feel generally uncomfortable
We left after a night - and would have gone sooner if that was at all possible

Visited in December and left a day early (we were refunded- after insisting). The cheap plastic kettle and tiny microwave, dirty carpets, plugholes blocked by hair and several broken bulbs as well as musty, stained finishings were awful. Restaurant food is poor, bar service slow. The chalet next door was very noisy and we could hear every word as well as their television. This is not a comfortable stay...it's a basic amenities deal - think sheets covered by brown military blankets and cheap cutlery. We won't be back.
