The lodge is situated at the end of the main road. Therefore you wan't find traffic passing in the evening, just hippo traffic. They graze in the garden, were you can also find vervet monkeys, honey badgers, red duiker antilopes, plenty of birds and other animals. The rooms are fine, with a fridge, air-con and a nice private verandah. The public areas are well looked after with a lot of decoration and an honesty bar.

The rooms were delightful, nothing was too much trouble for Michele or her staff, having evening drinks on the patio interrupted by 2 hippo drinking from the swimming pool behind us has to be unique, breakfasts were just right, homemade muffins were special..
Monkeys on the lawn, a view down to the lagoon, I could go on and on.
We would love to go back, it was everything we had hoped for when we booked.

We had a fantastic time while staying at Kingfisher lodge. Went for a walk and saw red duiker coming onto the property.
Michelle and her staff really spoilt us and made my birthday celebrations special. She organised a boat trip for us on the river to see the hippos, crocks and fish eagles. What a great experience.
Michelle is a great host and very willing to help you plan your time in St Lucia to have great fun. The whole experience was great value for money. We enjoyed staying here.

We atayed at this hotel for 4 nights and what alovely place to stay , I was apprehensive about ataying as I normally stay in either 4 or 5 star hotels so I thought I was going to stay in someones house but I was wrong the bedrooms are seperate from the house so you are completly private and only use the house for breakfast or as we did you can use the patio for a barbeque or relaxing around the pool. we had heard about the Hippo that sometimes visits for a drink and we were not dissapionted as a mother and baby hippo turned up the evening we were having the barbeque.... As for the Proprietors Michelle and Dave they were so friendly and even booked all our trips for us, we went Whale watching (AMAZING) on a 12 hr Safari (FANTASTIC) horse riding in the bush and even a Sunset cruise where we must have saw at least 100 Hippos..
I would highly recommend to anyone thinking of visiting South Africa to stay here for at least a week Thank you one again Dave and Michell EWE SHALL BE BACK Barbara& David

We had a warm welcome asking for a room for two nights. My Wife a me loved the beautyfull garden and the nice decorated rooms for living and breakfast.
We saw so many Hippos during the boat tour and even on Mainstreet in Town in the evening that not seeing them in Michelles garden did not disappoint us at all.
The breakfast ist very good and the room was clean and very nice decorated.
Thank You for this nice stay at Kingfishers Lodge.

Firstly the room was very very dirty, the linen looked dirty with brown spots and old pillows. The Mosquito net extremely filthy, brown and dusty.
The experience was awful, didnt get value for my money at all.
Toilet seat very old and toilet brush exposed with brown dirt, and behind the toilet as well looked very unhygienic.
The towels did not smell fresh at all. They looked very dirty.
My experience was truly horrible, only to wake up with a huge black spider in the sheets.

Lovely lodge at the edge of St. Lucia. The lodge and the rooms are surrounded by a beautiful garden and the patio has a great view on the estuary. Both evenings of our stay we enjoyed are wine and the slurping sounds of hippos drinking from the pool, first night 3 at once! And crying bush babies. A wonderfull (slightly scary) experience! Rooms were lovely decorated and clean.
As others have mentioned the plumbing in the bathrooms need to be up-dated. But I would definitely come back again!

St Lucia is the gateway to the beautiful iSimangaliso Wetlands Park, declared South Africa`s first World Heritage Conservation Site in 1999. St Lucia Kingfisher Lodge is situated at the edge of town which means that whilst the shops, restaurants and other amenities are only a 10 minute walk away, the lodge`s delightful gardens blend seamlessly into the surrounding Gwalagwala Forest. The lodge has extensive shady gardens with a wide variety of trees. St Lucia Estuary can be viewed from the end of the garden and the start of the walking trail through the Gwalagwala Forest is next to the front gate. This proximity to nature means that the gardens are home to a wide variety of birds and are often visited by animals such as hippos, various antelope, bush babies and very occasionally leopards. A small swimming pool is available for the exclusive use of guests. Guests are welcome to relax either on sun loungers in the garden, under a poolside shaded area or in the comfortable lounge in the main house. All room rates include a delicious full breakfast which is served in a light and airy dining room offering views of the gardens and estuary.
