The Umlilo lodge hosts were such friendly people who made us feel at home. We stayed at Umlilo during our 3-days Safari, and the service and rooms Umlilo offers are of a very high standard. On the final day after our check out we could even make use of their showers and fresh towels before we hit the road again. The breakfast was amazing and the scenery of the place and rooms are also very nice. We plan to come back here in the future!

Enjoyed our stay here. Excellent service and the rooms very clean. The hosts went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. Very good breakfast-hot and cold. Good wifi. Very safe area and very good for all amenities. Within walking distance.

If you want to have an escape from daily routine and urban civilization and have a little peaceful paradise neighboring a real African wild life- Saint Lucia/Umlilo lodge would be the right place to choose.
We stayed at Umlilo lodge for 5 days and I must say it was one of the most pleasant experiences. The lodge is owned by a beautiful South African family, and they make sure that their guests feel comfortable and cozy, just like in a home away from home. The owners will assist you with all the information needed as well as tour bookings, and actually they will try and help you with just any requests you may have.
The lodge itself is designed as African safari 2 level bungalow house. The rooms are very cozy and clean, beds are very comfortable (which is very important for those traveling a lot), bathrooms are en-suit with both bathtubs and showers.
There is a nice swimming pool, where you can have some peaceful time if you are not out on a tour.
Breakfasts are very nice with a good variety and fresh fruit salads are served every morning.
In terms of location, the lodge is conveniently located near the main street where all the shops and restaurants are - everything is just 5 minute walking distance.
It is also very close to the river dock, about 3 km to the gate to iSimangaliso Wetland Park and about 30 km to the famous Cape Vidal.
Overall it is a very customer friendly, beautiful and cozy place and I would highly recommend Umlilo lodge as your holiday home!

We stayed for 3 nights just after Christmas and had the family room. The owners were very helpful and friendly. They provided plenty of guidance and help for us to get the most out of the area. The breakfasts were excellent. Perhaps the only quibble was the air conditioning in the room was noisy. However this did not detract from a great time here. The lodge is handy to St Lucia village and there are plenty of places for an evening meal. Activities we took up in the area included visits to the beach, a boat tour, a visit to Cape Vidal, a Turtle Tour (Euro Zulu) and a bike tour (Shakabarker). We were by the way at the Cape Vidal gates for 5:30 am and even at that time, 60+ cars were there already!

If you find any of the reviews in my user profile helpful please use the helpful button at the bottom thanks.

The Umlilo is definately differant from the norm. It has been designed as a tropical forest with all the accomodation built as log tree style cabins completely surrounded by lush vegatation/trees/a dna small man made stream full of koi carp. Visually it looks extremely nice, in reality it was a bit noisy on the night time. The reason for this was the whole contruction is joined by one long continuous wooden walk way with wooden stairs into each of the rooms. This works well with the visual aspect, however as people are walking in and out because there are no breaks in the wooden structure the vibration of people walking in and out and up and down stairs resonates into your rooms, as a light sleep this did keep me a wake and did wake me early morning as some people are leaving early most days and have the suitcases with wheels on which bang over the wooden slats, cant be helped obviously but it was a downside to for me.
Apart from that it is well situated litterily 3 mins from the main part of st lucia not that any where is far from Mckenzie st. The rooms themselves are done out in a kind of african outdoor safari lodge style with mosquito nets over the beds and it all works really well. If you are expecting New York/London/Paris style mod cons then forget it, this place is done for those expecting a little bit of a safari lodge but with all the amenities of st lucia round the corner. The host was an exceptionally bubbly lady and ever so helpful, the full english breakfast was spot on I even noticed the germans digging into the english breakfast as well so it must have been good.
All in all this is our 3rd time in st lucia from the uk and would I stay here again yes as long as I could get a room that never suffered with the noise issue, but that was because I am a light sleeper.
