A lot of fences along the B&B's of St Lucia, but they are there for a reason…the hippo's take over at night. In our four nights stay we had two encounters with a hippo in the middle of the town, where they were grazing during the evening :-). Beautiful creatures. As long as you don't walk in their way.
Umlilo is near the centre and has friendly owners, beautifully decorated rooms and lovely beds. The lush garden with the scaffolds, the swimming pool and the hospitality bar bring a welcoming feeling and relaxation. A spacious room and a lovely clean bathroom including bath was applicable for our room (room 1). We spent four nights there after our Kruger experience (and Swaziland).
Take a tour to the iSimangaliso wetlands and encounter the chatting of the hippo's when you are one meter apart from them in the boat. Great fun!! We also arranged a day trip to Hluhluwe imfolozi park including a braai. It's a great park but a good hours drive form St Lucia and if you've already experienced Kruger this is more of the same I would say. We have not experienced the Cape Vidal road (going north past Lake St Lucia) but we also have not heard any positive reactions.More
