Typical hotel franchise, nothing to brag about, but nothing to feel sorry about, rooms are good, food is good.Best is that it is close to the Kruger National Park gate, hens the name.Service is good and their is a pool, perfect for overnight, but not for long stays

Dear Xandervt

Your feedback is appreciated and valued by the TEAM. Thank you for taking the time to post it on TripAdvisor.

We aim to not only meet, but exceed GUEST expectations. “Average” is certainly not something that we are usually proud to offer and I am disappointed that we did not ‘wow’ you during your stay. I will raise this with the TEAM to ensure that we create that breathtaking first impression for our GUESTS.

I am, however, pleased that we met our goal of delivering the best GUEST service and I will congratulate the TEAM on their efforts.

Until next time, we wish you safe travels.

Kind Regards

We loved it! A spacious and comfy room only a short walk from all the facilities. The ambience was wonderful although sometimes you had a problem seeing your food and drink (!)due to the very subdued lighting but this added to the mystique of being in wild Africa. Food quality and variety at the outdoor buffet was excellent. Staff in the bar and restaurant were friendly although sometimes a little slow but we have since realized this typical of South Africa and it didn't detract from a wonderful stay. The early morning game drive was impossible to describe......absolutely awesome! We loved every minute of our stay.

Dear bargrae

If I could give my response a title, it would also be “Wow”. Thank you for your fantastic comments on TripAdvisor.

Our newly refurbished rooms offer great comfort in such tranquil surroundings. The walkways that link up the rooms to the hotel add so much character to ones stay.

Being located in the bush, we try to blend in with nature in all areas. Your comment regarding the lighting is something that I will discuss with the TEAM to ensure that GUESTS are not at all frustrated.

I am thrilled that you enjoyed the wide variety of dishes available at the outdoor buffet. I will congratulate the chef and TEAM as well as the entire STAFF regarding their friendly service.

A trip to the Kruger National Park would not be complete without a game drive and it is great to know that you had such an awesome time.

I look forward to welcoming you back to the bushveld.

Expensive, overcooked lamb, severely limited and poor quality veggie options. The location was excellent and the hotel was beautiful. Milkshakes were the only redeeming quality for this restaurant.

Service was also very poor, no cutlery provided til we somehow managed to flag down a staff member 5 minutes after food was served (we were the only guests here).

Dear RangaL

Thank you for providing us with feedback on TripAdvisor.

I am extremely sorry for your disappointing experience whilst dining at our restaurant. Offering a variety of quality food and the best GUEST service is what we strive to achieve. I would like to assure you that I will be addressing these concerns with the TEAM immediately to ensure that this does not happen again.

However, it is positive to know that the milkshakes were enjoyed by all and that you found the hotel itself to be beautiful.

I do hope that we will be able to welcome you back and show you true Protea Hospitality.

We prefer an a la carte menu for dinners but this hotel has restored our faith in buffets! We stayed for three nights and each night had a different buffet dinner - every meal was superb!!! The service was excellent, each day we were given a breakfast pack as we left early to go on game drives and we were provided 750ml of filtered water every day in the room.

In terms of game viewing we saw the big-five plus wild dogs so the hotel is ideally placed and provided access to a game-rich area of the Kruger Park.

Dear KrugerToKalahari

What amazing feedback! Your title affirms that we are on track to achieve the excellence we strive for.

I am so glad that the chef and TEAM were able to restore your faith in buffet dining. They do a great job in sourcing quality produce in order to provide a variety of options. I will commend them in their efforts to continuously offer unique and delicious meals.

As far as the game viewing goes, I am delighted that you got to see the Big 5 in their natural habitat and enjoyed the breakfast packs.

I hope you will visit us again.

We had 3 nights in this hotel and reallly enjoyed our time there. The bedrooms are spacious with generous toileteries(refreshed daily), we had filtered water and fruit upon arrival with the water being replaced daily. When we entered the room the TV was showing a program on African big game which led to our anticipation of the next mornings game drive, there were several satellite channels on the TV. The hotel is happy to provide a fridge in the room or buckets of ice if required. Dinner is buffet style by a fire pit, there is a good range of choice for all courses which changed daily, our only comment on this is there is no option of eating from the a la carte menu in the evening and thus getting table service. Breakfast boxes were ample but would benefit from having water bottles instead of juice. The main breakfast was excellent and would need a couple of hours to fully appreciate!
The hotel has a good gift shop which in the scheme of things is not expensive, it also has a small range of emergency over the counter medicines.
Room service is speedy.
Our only minor complaint is that we did not have a balcony in our room.
We did not use the viewing deck or pool etc due to lack of time.
The greatest advantage of this hotel is the proximity to the park itself 5 minutes.
There is fee wifi in parts of the hotel and also a fixed computer in the library area for theuse of guests

Room Tip: As near to the reception area as possible less distance when on an early game drive.

Dear workhousekids

Thank you for taking the time to share your fantastic comments about your recent stay at Protea Hotel Kruger Gate.

We have recently completed our refurbishment and the new rooms offer comfort and luxury. I am reassured by your comments and am delighted that the STAFF is maintaining our high standards of providing all the necessary amenities.

As there are no restaurants nearby, we are conscious about offering a varied selection at all meal periods to ensure GUESTS have options. I appreciate your comments regarding the a la carte options and will discuss this with my TEAM. The breakfast is spectacular and although I know one doesn't have a few hours to enjoy it, I am pleased that the selection was appreciated.

I look forward to your return.

As we own timeshare at another hotel in Hazyview, we have not stayed at Protea Hotel Kruger Gate, but would definitely not mind doing so. We do, however, regularly stop for a drink, snack or light meal after leaving the Kruger National Park through the Kruger Gate.

On our last visit we arrived at 18:45 for a light meal (the restaurant closes at 19:00, where after a buffet braai is served in a huge outdoor boma). The restaurant, however, agreed to prepare us fish and chips and to serve it in the pub. The service, food, drinks and atmosphere were great.

Will definitely visit again.

Spot on great location two minutes from the Kruger gates. Food fabulous although cooked is sometimes cold (just ask chef to pop back on the grill for a minute) even the blue bubblegum mouse - only in South Africa was nice. Only let down was on the Sunday night it switched from buffet to set menu so wouldn't book a Sunday night again as was looking forward to the buffet after a day in the park. Rooms spotless lots of good toiletries and cracking power showers. Welcome drink nice. Good car parking. Would definitely recommend and will go again.

Room Tip: Ask for a garden view on the ground floor or a room near reception as it can be quite a walk to the...
