A dump indeed! I really do not understand the rating, it is a rated a 4 star and I have been in much better 3 star accommodations. The service is dissapointing, I was there for a week and bed linen and towels were never changed for the entire week. In fact that week felt like a month. Breakfast is very basic and dissapointing indeed. Please look for accommodation elsewhere if you want to enjoy your stay in Kimberley.

We opted to overnight at this guest house due to its location within the Kimberley Mine museum area. The room (Executive Suite) was large and in good order but the service was poor. The dining area can best be described as a dump and the breakfast extremely basic and disappointing. The management and staff clearly have very low standards (or simply don't know any better) not in keeping with the rates being charged and the facility does not come near the impression created by their website.
Way overpriced and to be avoided.
You should certainly visit the museum and walk around the interesting recreated historic town, but find accommodation elsewhere.

We arrived at this 'hotel' and could not find anyone to help us. The place was disgusting! We left and will never return. Please be careful when booking here. The place reeked of smoke and the rooms were not made up by five in the afternoon. It looked as if the dirty linens were going straight back onto the beds. We also found strangers wandering about freely - it made us feel unsafe.

A really worthwhile experience as the rooms were in keeping with the whole big hole experience. Liked how in one of our rooms we had the roll top bath but there was a shower hidden behind a door so kept the period theme. My wife enjoyed a deep luxuary bath in the roll top bath. An advatage was when I wentto look around at 7.30am all the buildings were being opened up which we had not been able to go round when we arrived the previous day. As it was a Sunday a later breakfast set us up for the long drive to our next stop by Beaufort West. We chose to eat at the Occidental Bar and have reviewed that separately. Would recommend a night to experience the period setting.

We booked here as a stopover on route from Limpopo to Cape Town and were looking forward to it as it looked very good on the Internet. On checking in we we told that the restaurant no longer operated and the dining room closed its doors at 19:30 but a restaurant in town was recommended. We then chose to self cater and bought our provisions from a very good Checkers in town. On our return we found that the Big Hole and nearly everything else closed at 17:00. Only then did we see that there was a Protea Hotel next door where we could have dined. The room was beautifully furnished but cleaning had clearly not been done for a long time. The dressing table was covered in thick dust as was the headboard. I then looked under the bed - it looked like thick fur. The lovely chaise lounge was joined to the wall by a large cobweb. There was less than half a toilet roll in the bathroom, the bath gel container was empty, one of the bedside lamps didn't work. At least the linen was clean. This place has so much potential. I really hope it gets better.

Australian Arms is ideally placed on the Kimberly Hole property. On arrival you are immediately thrown back in time, with a wonderful sense of nostalgia. The en suite rooms are beautiful, with modern fittings but antique furnishing. My favourite is the ball and claw bath.

The day was spent the day at the "big hole" and looking longingly at the diamonds sparkling in the shop windows. We also visit the local pub which has not stepped too far out of the 1800's.
