My wife and I stayed there for 2 nights on a mid week break in August .Arrival and check in was a welcoming change from the deteriorating service standards generally experienced in the industry.Herman at reception and John the porter went out of their way to ensure that we were happy with the room ensuring that we had a balcony.Quality and cleanliness of the rooms remain of a high standard . The only pity was that we had to wait until 3pm on the second day for our room to be serviced , despite asking for the room to be made up earlier, losing out on the experience of relaxation. Also the housekeeping only provided one gown , requested another but this never arrived. Good turn down service. Be aware lots of renovation taking place in the Sun City hotel so avoid this hotel for a while. The facilities and atmosphere for gamblers is but a fraction of its heyday The resort however is still of exceptional quality and the front areas remain tranquil and relaxed.

Room Tip: Try and secure a room with a balcony on the right hand side above the 7th floor for best tranquility...

We stayed at Cascades in April 2013. Sun City as a whole is pure decadence and there is just no end to how much you can spend. Its a world within itself and three nights zip by like lightning.
The casino runs 24X7 and has a great collection of slot machines. We really enjoyed the Valley of the Waves as well - some of the rides were super scary and the waves itself were fun. But keep in mind that the Valley attracts lots of outside tourists as well during weekends. The maze is another interesting attraction. You can find the other stuff listed on the website.
Do keep in mind that most of the attractions inside have to be PAID for. So keep a watch on the wallet coz before you know it you have blown up a lot of money. And believe me there is no end to how much you can splurge at Sun City.
Personally I don't think it matters what Hotel you are staying within Sun City coz with such a plethora of activities, its stupidity to spend time indoors. Food is good though we were disappointed that they couldn't be bothered with eggless pastries for us even after we had complained. Shuttle services keep running through out Sun City but you can pretty much walk it to anywhere.

Arrived on our honeymoon on valentines day to have to be checked in efficently in and be shown ti our room - Which was very nice and had a fruit basket and Champagne waiting. Sadly this was the only up side

The hotel and surroundings was like 70/80's Vegas and very depressing. We arrived about midday and unpacked. Sadly having never experienced a resort like this before we were unaware that this is a weekend getaway hotel and the whole resort is full booked most weekends(not mentioned at thine of check in) so when we came to book an nice romantic meal in one of the many restaurants there were no vacancies (the concierge response was 'well you should have booked earlier' - we would have if given all the information)
Sadly our first Valentines meal as a married couple was take away pizza (not particularly good either) from the food court and a couple bottles of beer in our room.

The hotel knowing full well that they were fully booked then did not provide enough space for all residents for breakfast and we all had to queue for over an hour to be seated only for there to be dries up egg sausage and bacon left. we complained and were told to be there earlier tomorrow, and we were only to be met with a longer wait

Our Stay was so bad that we were booked in four 4 nights and decided to go to a real 5* hotel in Johannesburg (Monte Casino) after the 2nd night.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT STAY HERE. IF YOU DONT BELIEVE ME PLEASE READ OTHER REVIEWS

Room Tip: Do not stay here

The hotel was rather easy to find and reception was very welcoming and friendly(and some welcome drinks). It felt awesome not having to remove all the luggage and carry it up. Check-in was a breeze.
The room was tidy and was always correctly prepared according to time of day (slippers for the evening, aircon set and TV with remote and channel magazine placed).
The breakfast was probably our main event for the day (it's huge!) and despite the hotel being busy the weekend, service was still excellent and my coffee cup was always full and used plates were removed within a minute after finishing. Please do use the bathrooms on the breakfast level (1); going to the bathroom felt like a pleasure :)
The hotel have some beautiful gardens, pools as well as an aviary cage. Access to the golf course is easy, all of which were well maintained.
The hotel is nicely integrated into SunCity's Entertainment area as well as the rest of SunCity via the train and bus service. The car-park have ample of parking, though it is first-come first serve so don't expect parking to be available during a busy weekend.
As usual, this is SunCity so there are allot to do (Valley of the waves, Waterworld, Golf etc)

Room Tip: Rooms on the upper floors have a nicer view.

........before writing this review, thought hard to say anything - atleast one good thing about The Cascades or even Sun City for that matter.....but simply could not come up with anything.

Far away location. ..not worth the travel.
Absent Customer service - right from the time of check in - everyone makes you feel - 'Why have you come here' ! Seems they all understand that once you are there, it's not easy to return - you are caught and have to bear them.

Age old property 22 years old- and it shows well. Looks the staff hasn't ventured out since opening and the management hasn't made any efforts to train them on the true meaning of hospitality. Also looks like the "5 star category awarding committee hasn't visited them since long.

Internet seems to be very precious for them. Only 100 MB - that too if it is working. If it doesn't, all staff first blames it to you that it is your own fault. Even email about any matter to the 'absent' guest relation manager (Karen) is not answered ! In the rooms, you get an empty mini bar.

The happiest moment is the one when you leave Sun City !

Stay away from the Sun City - you might get burnt !!

we arrived as a labour strike started and left as it ended.
Whilst management might not have foreseen the looming strike action they surely should have reduced our 5 star charges.
We could not get anyone to unlock the mini bar so we could drown our sorrows nor could we have a cooked breakfast!
No evening dinners available so we were forced to eat fast food
No lunch at the golfing half way house etc etc
A really dismal state of affairs.
After planning a week of luxury and flying over from Mauritius this was not a holiday to remember! (unless listed on the disastrous holidays page!)

I loved this Hotel! Anything and everything we needed was just a phone call away. The best part for foodies like myself and hubby was the breakfast, and the in room dining was better than most eateries at Sun City. I would definitely recommend The Cascades Hotel. The only negative is Internet, Wi Fi would have been a nice extra.
