“peaceful paradise with best view and pool”
Reviewed 14 February 2014

our stay at compass house was truly special. the house itself is beautiful and lovingly decorated, the rooms very nice, quiet and clean, breakfast delicious (we loved the warm, really good bread and croissants!) and the staff is very helpful and nice. but the pool and the view are TRULY EXCEPTIONAL. everything about this place is thought through, is lovingly decorated in order to make one feel truly relaxed. and it has the best infinity pool and view! rudolph, the manager and olivier, the owner are most wonderful, helpful and make you feel truly welcome. an exceptional boutique hotel that i can only recommend highly! PS: in 10 minutes you can reach main st. and the beach on foot, the area is safe, so occasionally stepping out for dinner or a walk on the beach is no problem. :-) we will definitely return. first class with best view and pool.

Room Tip: we stayed in room 3 and loved it! its a little bigger and it is wonderful to sit outside on your lit...

We stayed at Compass House for 4 nights in January in one of the pool side rooms. The hotel itself is very well designed with some very special places to relax - both inside and out. Breakfast with a remarkable view and a lot of choice - great freshly squeezed OJ!
The outside area and infinity pool is by far the best feature.
Overall the place had a very personal and boutique hotel feel. We were very sorry to leave!

An ideal location with wonderful views of the ocean. Beautifully appointed rooms. Attentive but unobtrusive service. Rudolph was super helpful and gave us excellent recommendations for restaurants and wine farms to visit. We will definitely return.

very nice experience, peaceful and elegant stay without any problem.Room size adequate with wide beautiful view on ocean.Location is rather away from the main restaurants and other attractions meaning car is necessary.Nevertheless, area around is one of the best in Cape.

Bantry Bay is an hour's walk to the V&A wharf along a stunning coast with a huge waterfront walkway filled with people running and strolling along. Camp's Bay is another 30 minutes from the V&A and impossible to walk to. Bantry Bay is all apartment buildings along the coast, so no shops or restaurants, well - two restaurants, one in a hotel, one on the beach, which is the best in all of the Capt Town area. There's a main street a block up from the beach, but it is old and grungy, no tourist shops at all, funny as there are many B&Bs.
Compass house is a fabulous location, however a steep hike up the hill, but stunning views. Rooms can be hot as they all face the ocean, air con at night seems to be the only option, no cross ventilation. Great beds, very nice rooms, very quiet location, nice to stay in a house, no kitchen sink in the kitchen ~ as in South Africa you have staff at all times to get you a finger bowl to wash up.
B&Bs have draw backs, no option of hot breakfast, only fruit, bread and cereal, very good, but only hard boiled eggs.
I have one beef, the staff....my husband got a couple drops of blood on the sheets up near the face, I noticed it in the morning. That evening I noticed the blood drops were gone, but when I pulled the comforter back the next morning I saw that the blood was down at my feet area, same drops....so the girls had turned the sheet around, so we wouldn't see it at "turn down" service (which is just a way to check on you) which meant I slept where my husband's feet were the previous night. This would never happen in a hotel, we'll stay at hotels from now on.
My other complaint is the music, it's on throughout the house and pool area, same music, steady beat, not rhymthic... we spent 6 nights here but I only went to the common spaces twice. I asked to turn it off once and they did. You can hear the waves so I don't see the need to block them out....although the music isn't loud, just loud enough to drive me nuts.
Don't bother paying extra for TV as they only get 5 channels, no CNN, only Euro News, which is just a 10 minute brief of the news, repeated all day long, they also get Discovery channel, MONDE, National Geographic, and a movie channel.
Bantry Bay's claim to fame is that it is sheltered from the wind.

Comfortable, contemporary rooms with wonderful views across the Indian Ocean. Breakfast was ideal! Able to truly relax in beautiful surroundings. Unfortunately our stay of three nights was too short - my only complaint! Thank you!
