52 De Wet
Ranked #1 of 6 Hotels in Bantry Bay
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 6 February 2014 via mobile

This is a gem of a hotel, with 8 rooms perched on the hill above stunning Bantry Bay, with an infinity pool and panoramic views towards Cape Town and Camps Bay.

Russell and Marnie are everything you could want in a host - friendly, accommodating, helpful and efficient. Nothing is too much trouble and Russell's cakes are to die for!
tea, coffee and cake and biscuits are always available in the central room. I just wish we could have eaten dinner there, menus designed around the guests and parties and corporate dinners catered for we gathered.

The room we had (no 4) was very spacious, with a massive bathroom and lovely touches like candles and bath salts. There was a teeny bit of plumbing noise from the adjacent room when taps were used but it was not significant.

Our room came with its own sheltered balcony and stunning view.

The staff all follow their managers' lead in being friendly and helpful and help to make it the success it clearly is.

Can't wait to return and wish we hadn't had such a short stay. Highly recommended!

Had six nights and had very friendly welcome from Russ & Marnie. Great location, great views, but we had expected more. Billed and advertised as a 5 star, it didn't quite live up to that. We do agree with all previous reviews, but our expectations were high. Views and location are not everything. On booking, we had at least 3 different respondents on email and it was 2 or 3 days between replies. Which meant we missed out on the penthouse, as it was booked by others in those three days. That should have told us enough. ie- bit disorganised, poor communication.
Service was bit loose, we felt it was not as professional as expected.
Pool area and sun loungers were limited and a bit tight for space, but did offer a great view.
As stated, personally we had very high expectations.

Dear Tony,
Thank you for your review, I could certainly sense your disappointment at missing out on the Penthouse from the moment you arrived. I would however like to mention that the Penthouse was only enquired about & being our most popular room it was taken very quickly. You can book instantly using our website or 3 of the major travel sites if you specifically want a room, being only 8 rooms availability is limited.

At 52 we are striving to create a homely feel with the function & service of a luxury hotel & I sincerely hope that this was not lost on you.

Both myself & the team are very disappointed that you did not 100% enjoy your stay & really appreciate all the feedback. I would really like you to mail me directly to discuss your thoughts, if you don't mind, as we are always thriving to be better.

Kind Regards,

Marnie & Russell

Many things can be said about hotels, but the best one by far is to come back to say you felt like you were home....

What can I say about 52 De Wet? Will try to summarize

1. Locations is fantastic. Obviously it is not in the center but on a quiet neighbourhood near everything and far from nothing. 10 minutes from Camps Bay, not even that from V&A, etc

2. The building is amazing. Its a house located in a chic area overlooking the ocean from the heights of a hill.

3. The infinity pool does its job. Refresh and what a view (and great pictures too)

4. Rooms are great, and even though mine was the cheapest one, I loved it. The bed, the amenities, the touches, the fusión between bathroom and room, etc.

5. Service is impecable

6. Breakfast is like the one cooked at home, not a hotel breakfast. Same goes for whatever you order for lunch, dinner.

7. WIFI Works very well all throughout the hotel

8. The feeling of the place is not like a hotel, but like a house shared with friends. Ross and Marnie are fantastic hosts and will do anything they can to improve your stay.

9. The feeling of having a cold beer while the sun goes down is just amazing. What a place...

I would like to add 3 more things...

THANKS

Ross, Marnie, THANKS.

Will come back A.S.A.P

I always say that the best compliment a hotel can receive is when a guest says, he felt like at home.

Well, at 52 De Wet I felt like at home, and a bit more.

The location is stunning, obviously not in central CapeTown but close enough. The place, the views, the road that leads us to the hotel, its just perfect.

From the moment you arrive you feel like at home, they all try to make things easy for you.

My room was the cheapest one, thank God, it was an amazing room with a very interesting bathroom, which was part of the room but separated by sliding doors.

Wifi worked ok throughout all the hotel

Breakfast was nice, very well presented and not hotel food, but food you would prepare home for friends. Same thing happens for lunch or dinner (sándwiches, salads, etc) everything is prepared with much care.

Amenities and small touches in the room were fantastic, they also help to make a difference.

And finally both Ross, Marnye and the Team were great people, great hosts and made my short stay a great one.

The hotel is very small, you dont have many guests and quite a few were there for a few days. This means that when you go down for breakfast you talk to everyone and there is a lot of interaction, with guests, management, etc,

And ofcourse anything you may need, its always available (reservations for retaurants, tips, information, check in online, stamps for postcards, etc) you name it.

I can only say 3 things.

THANKS

I completely agree, the best thing you can say about a hotel is that you felt at home, what a compliment! This is exactly what we are trying to achieve and are over the moon that this is how you felt.
We hope that we'll see you again soon & don't forget about our corporate deal next time you come alone.

52 De Wet really does have the wow factor. Beautiful ocean views, where , if you are lucky, you can see seals, dolphins, sharks, and the odd whale, luxurious bedrooms, and some of the best food we ate in the whole of Cape Town. Marnie and Russell are fantastic hosts who do their utmost to make sure that you have a great stay in this modern, luxurious, but relaxed hotel. Thank you both for giving us the most wonderful hospitality. The best holiday ever!!

Room Tip: The penthouse is amazing!

We arrived late at night after 18 hours of travelling non stop from Sydney, Australia. Not knowing what to expect we at last arrived at our destination, 52 De Wet Road. This boutique hotel that has just 8 rooms was the most wonderful surprise. The entry had a wow factor from the moment we were greeted at the door by a friendly smiley face, and we hadn't seen the view yet! Tired and weary, we were taken to our room which was beautifully furnished, meticulously clean and very modern. The bathroom was incredible with both a fabulous shower, bathtub and a heated towel rack with upmarket appliances. The bedroom, loft style, sitting 4 stairs above the living area. Our bed was firm and the linens beautiful 100% cotton. We woke up feeling refreshed and ready for breakfast. Entering the dining area was nothing short of exciting. The view spectacular, encompassing the vastness of being on a vista, taking in the Atlantic Ocean and Capetown below. We had arrived. The Manager of the property and her chef partner are amazing as are the staff. Warm and relatable, very relaxed and yet upholding a high standard in both the environment that is managed beautifully and the food that spoiled us so, that we ended up with cooked breakfast each day, a picnic hamper when we visited the Kirstenbosch Gardens and we couldn't help but stay in for 3 of the 6 nights we were guests, to enjoy dinner in the home like environment that the hosts have created. As I write this review we have stayed in several other properties throughout South Africa and by far we can say that 52 De Wet Boutique Hotel is our favourite! Enjoy.

Room Tip: We had a partial view room to save a little and it was perfect.
