“Personal luxury at its best”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 June 2012

Our famly of three, including our nearly 5YO daughter recently enjoyed a three night stay at Camps Bay retreat. We opted for the Porsche Panamera airport pick-up and have to say that the entire stay in Cape Town was absolutely wonderful. Everything about our stay was excellent, from the service, food, suite and standards. We had a three bedroom apartment located across the rope bridge and were greeted by well-trained, beautiful happy dogs. The main house was gorgeous, like a European castle. There are numerous gardens and walking paths. On one afternoon we played tennis on the retreat's hard court and without request a pitcher of ice water and lemon cordial was delivered courtside to refresh us. We arranged our tours, including visit to Table Mountain and itinerary to the Stellenbosch wine region. CB Retreat also kindly organised restaurnat reservations at the famed Test Kitchen in Cape Town, Codfather's and Indochine at the Delaire Graff Estate in Stellenbosch. I highly recommend all three. Camps Bay Retreat is an amazing property and we look forward to returning, hopefully in the summer time when we can take advantage of the private swimming pools.

Dear Guest
Thank you for your kind words and wonderful feedback. I have passed on you compliments to all relevant staff members. We try to go the extra mile for our guests and I am very pleased to read that it made a difference for you. The lemonade at the tennis court is always well received and such a treat (especially after a gruelling game).
We look forward to welcoming you and your wonderful family back to the retreat in the summer months to enjoy the splendour of our property in better weather.
Kind regards
Camps Bay Retreat team

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights as a part of our honeymoon and we wish we had stayed a week! This hotel is very unique and is just lovely!

Rooms
What I love about this place is every room is unique. We stayed in room 5 ‘The Deck House’ and it was amazing. It’s lovely and secluded; you even have to go across the swing bridge to get to it. The layout was lovely and the Jacuzzi bath was gorgeous. We had our own private deck with a lovely view of the gardens and ocean. The drink in the mini bar is really reasonable as well; I think a 500ml bottle of wine was about £4.

Hotel
The whole place is beautiful and the word retreat describes it perfectly. The manor house was built in 1929 and has alot of the original features and is beautiful. The garden is lovely and the view of the ocean is spectacular. The pools are nice as well but were a bit cold for the time of year we went! It’s very secure as well as the entrance is gated.

Staff
All the staff were very friendly and helpful. They took the time to give us a tour of the property and explain the history behind it. They always cleaned our room and did a turn down service and even put hot water bottles in our bed! They also made our honeymoon special as they put rose petals on the bed and did a candlelit bath for us.

Food
We only had breakfast here but the variety was really good and was nice to sit outside and look at the view.

Dogs
How can anyone do a review without mentioning the dogs! They’re lovely especially Wanda and Ben! Wonder is gorgeous and she loves to play, she even came to our room and sat with us on the deck. Ben is like a massive teddy bear, he is so soppy! The dogs have got to be the best thing about the retreat, nothing better than being greeted by them when you come back from a day out! Nevertheless, if you’re not a dog person they won’t bother you if you ignore them.

Location
The location is fantastic. You can walk to camps bay where there are loads of nice bars and restaurants and a supermarket. Also, you’re only a 10min drive away from the waterfront and about a 5min drive to table mountain. I would definitely recommend going to table mountain as the views are stunning and the plant and wildlife on the top is vast. There are also Dassies which are very cute! I would also recommend going the V&A waterfront to eat as it’s really reasonable and lovely food. We also went to Mount Nelson Hotel which is about a 10min drive from the retreat for cocktails and dinner and it was amazing and very reasonable. The champagne cocktails were only £5! It’s worth hiring car as there is so much to see and we drove out to boulders bay to see the penguins and the drive to there was stunning.

Overall, this retreat is truly unique and one of the best places we’ve stayed in. It’s in an amazing location and I wouldn’t have stayed anywhere else in Cape Town. Can’t wait to stay here again - we’re missing the dogs!

Dear reviewer
Thank you for making the Camps Bay Retreat a part of your honeymoon adventure. I am pleased to read that all expectations were exceeded and that you enjoyed your romantic turndown and the hot water bottles in your bed.
Table Mountain is spectacular and we do feel blessed to live and work is such a beautiful environment. It pleases me to read that you got to experience some of Cape Town’s gems!
I am sure our furry friends are missing you too and that they are excited for you to return, as I know we are.

Lovely friendly and helpful staff- packed us a lunch with 15 mins notice between our table mountain trip and township tour. Beautiful building and gardens with gorgeous views of the sea and sunsets. We ate good breakfasts and a very lovely evening meal on the terrace. We loved our rope bridge walk to our deckhouse too.

Beautiful, charming & set in spectacular setting! One feels like you have entered another world when going through the gates into this amazing lush retreat.

Amazing old house with library & lounge with food fireplaces, 5 star restaurant & modern accommodation.

Very friendly, professional & attentive staff.

We loved the dogs (main reason why we booked here) & the tennis court!

Short walk to the main Camps Bay drag & beach with exclusive access to the SandyB Beach Club at the Table Bay hotel.

Loved it & looking forward to returning for a longer stay.

Room Tip: We stayed in one of the Deckhouse suites, which is across a hangbrige with each room having a wooden...

Unlike most places we have stayed at in Camps Bay, Camps Bay Treat is a real gem. A lovely traditional house with extra modern acommodation in the new apartment chalets accessible across the rope bridge from the main house. Charming service, amazing views and rare for Camps Bay - space! We previously stayed at The 12 Apostles which is a stunning hotel, however the rooms there are tiny and the total plot is v cramped in comparison to Camps Bay Retreat. The latter is also within walking distance down to the beach and Camps Bay itself. Greart place and we will definitely go back

Room Tip: In the main house if you want a more authentic stay In the new apartment rooms away from the house...
