The "Resort" really is a collection of different types of rooms and apartments. We stayed in a three bedroom flat in what they call "Brighton Court" - must be one of the best places to stay in Camps Bay. Almost directly on the beach, with secure parking in front, all the amenities you'd expect in a self-catering apartment and well-equipped. And all this at a reasonable price, with decent service at reception and good house-keeping.

Look no further if you want to stay close to the beach and to all the "attractions" of Camps Bay.

But beware: All this is true only for the apartments on "Brighton Court". We did not see the other apartments / suites from inside, but none of them have the location advantage.

Room Tip: Brighton Court - apartments with sea view.

My husband I booked a classic room bed and breakfast at the Camps Bay Resort, when we arrived we were given a studio room( with cooking facility's ) which did not include breakfast.
But the studio was in a great position over looking the swimming pool.
What we saw of Camps Bay resort was that it was in the centre of Camps Bay and the accommodation was clean. The staff were pleasant and helpful. value for money I guess 8 out of 10. Would I stay there again possible but I would confirm what the accommodation included.

Room Tip: In great position in Camps Bay.

Despite what happened to us during our stay at the Camps Bay Resort, I will be fair judging their accommodations which we found pretty satisfactory. The resort is actually a bunch of apartment blocks located across the street from the beach. Most of them do not have a view as windows will most likely face other buildings and internal alleys. We had a 3-room apartment and we had to have the curtains closed at all hours in all of them. Decoration is modern, minimalist and somehow stylish and apartments are in great condition. There are now wardrobes or furniture where to put your clothes in, so this resulted a big minus to us. The flat had a nice LCD TV, dvd player, and a well equipped kitchen. The “resort” has a tiny pool which is not enticing at all. If your plan includes breakfast, it will be at a neighboring café. Wi-fi is only available at the also tiny check-in office (there is no lobby at all). Overall, it is a 3-star property, in an excellent location which will please moderately demanding tourists.

So far so good, but here comes trouble. On our arrival night, it took an hour until a very rude guy checked us in and took us to our apartment. There, he was very emphatic that we must leave all our valuables in the safe which raised an eyebrow or two in my family group. We did so except for the stuff that would not fit in like notebooks, ipads, headsets and other devices as we were travelling with 4 youngsters so you can imagine how much of it we were carrying. We left some pocket money in our wallets too.

One day we came back at 3 pm to discover that the only hundred dollar bill that my son had in his wallet hidden in his backpack, had been stolen and, in an obvious gambit, replaced with a one dollar bill taken from a drawer in my other son’s room where he had just $4. We headed to the manager’s in duty office who express his sympathy and promised to immediately investigate the issue with the housekeeping staff. No news later that day and the next one which he said was day off for the maid in charge. In our final day in Cape Town, he met with us to explain that he had no evidence to trust what we were saying, that it was our word against the maid’s and that he could do nothing to help us since all our valuables should have been in the safe. They claimed that they are not liable for anything placed outside the safe box (we still wonder what would have happened if they had stolen our guitar or our clothes). Then, to our dismay, he offered to run a polygraph (lie detector) on the maid at a cost of $1,500 rands (roughly $150) that we should pay for. If the test proved her guilty, then we could request to prosecute and take her to court (certainly by hiring a lawyer and staying in the country…) but, still, the hotel was clear that they would assume no responsibility in paying for the polygraph or refunding the stolen amount. We could not believe our ears as the test (which apparently by law can be run on an employee) was absolutely on their sole interest, in order to determine if they had a thief in their staff. Still shocked in surprise by the proposal, they offer a less accurate but cheaper alternative, a voice stress test at $500 rands, under the same conditions!!! Certainly we dismissed this absurd proposal and requested to meet the maid, who eventually was neither questioned by the manager nor willing to say a word. The manager expressed his full support to his employee and promised us to monitor her in the future offering no apologies or compensation whatsoever. We left the place, really upset, having lost many hours of our precious 3 days in Cape Town due to this episode, with a few questions banging in our heads. If the law allows it, why they do not run the lie detector on their budget to make sure that they do not have a thief working for them?

In sum, an average place to stay, with awful service, no respect for customers and the risk of being robbed with the indulgence of their management.

If you want a quiet retreat to relax & enjoy the beautiful surroundings of camps bay DONT stay in this noisy basic place !!

No eating facilities, Rooms are what you would expect in a cheap Spanish resort not what you want to stay in on a holiday to visit one of the most beautiful & historical cities in the world.

My advise - spend the extra, book early with a reputable travel agent whom you trust not to mislead you into thinking your staying at Camps Bay Retreat - NOT to be confused with the Resort !!

We had a great time at Camps Bay Resort.
This is a self-catering apartment styled hotel. The hotel is very clean and rooms are very big with a kitchen. The location is perfect, just a couple minutes walk to the Camps Bay beach.
