The bar was a huge disappointment in terms of atmosphere.
It is small. Piped * pop * music and for me, when I compare this bar to that of other colonial hotels such as Raffles in Singapore, it is not in keeping with the colonial aspect of the property.
Indeed, there is a piano just outside the bar, and felt that in keeping with the colonial aspect, there should have been a pianist tinkling away.
It's a bar. Could be any hotel bar. Drinks were ok. Service was good.
There is an outdoor seating area on the terrace, mostly occupied by smokers. We are smokers and decided we would just pop out to smoke since we noticed there were cockroaches
around the tables, it was night and didn't quite fancy it.
Observed a gent order a bottle of Dom Perignon for his * lady friend * ( a good 50 years younger than him ). Nothing wrong there, but once they finished and were merry when they arrived, one of the waiters attempted to open a second bottle when the first was finished despite them not ordering one and I felt this was a cheap attempt to get someone who was already merry, to spend an absolute fortune on a second bottle - which they clearly pushed away.
We went to the Planet Bar for after dinner drinks. Glad we did it - but would not make a special trip to the hotel to simply drink there, unless you wanted to view the hotel.
