“Silly rules”
Reviewed 24 June 2014

The location is great but their 'rules' simply spoiled it:
We went for an early lunch at noon. The restaurant was empty and we would have liked to have an al la carte meal near the windows overlooking the rocks and sea. They refused to provide anything but the tapas menu. You had to move away from the windows to the tables area to get a far more expensive meal. They told us it was the 'rule'.
Pretty silly I feel.
Ended up at the Live Bait restaurant downstairs which was great!

Sit right next to crashing waves, drink some bubbly...and have great tacos ....we love it there every time we give to Cape Town. The restaurant is situated in Kalk bay

“Simply the best!”
Reviewed 18 April 2014

We had lunch here purely by chance on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in April. Isn’t it just wonderful when snap chance decisions turn out well and provide you with a pleasant memory for the rest of your life? Well this was one of them.
GENERAL: The location is simply perfect being in the Harbour and virtually on the rocky edge of the sea. It is a mid-range restaurant being the middle sister to fine dining big sister “Harbour House” and casual, very informal little sister “Live Bait”. The décor is white and rustic, somewhat reminiscent of a Greek tavern with some of the tables dressed in crisp white damask tablecloths and serviettes. Everything appeared clean and well maintained, including the kitchen (visible en route to the loo).
FOOD: Not a huge menu selection, but quite enough choice for most of us being predominantly seafood with a good few meat dishes thrown in. There is a super tapas selection too. The prices are in line with what you get and will not break the bank. The meal itself was outstanding – we had starters and mains and our portions were sufficient and oh-so-good with no space left for dessert. The food presentation was ‘unfussed’ but pleasant on the eye. In fact, as said above – all and all the best we have had in a long, long time. The restaurant also offers a good selection of wines to satisfy all tastes.
SERVICE: Only ok, we had to ask for finger bowls but otherwise unobtrusive and friendly.
Highly recommended for a top class relaxed meal - as said it was the best we have had in a long, long time.

“Sensational!”
Reviewed 17 April 2014

We had a hint to The Polana from some Capetonian friends, otherwise we wouldn't even have gone to Kalk Bay, but rather to Simon's town in our way back from the Cape Point. The bar is a great place to enjoy a sundowner directly on the water, protected by glass windows, with good wines and creative seafood starters (try the filled calamari!). If you smoke, you can enjoy that too. We did. Afterwards we moved to the restaurant area – me and my daughter ordered lamb and my husband had fish, both excellent taste and beautifully served. The ambiance was trendy, the music good. This was definitively the best combination of atmosphere and food we had during our two weeks in South Africa!
