We just stayed one night here before flying back to the UK.

First issue was finding the hotel, not easy as it's actually on a pedestrian precinct with no direct access by car. Also, to park you have to drive up the pedestrian precinct!

The rooms were newly decorated and had a nice fresh feel to them. One small problem we encountered was that the door key would not activate the power so the reception had to send someone up to "jiggle about with the key for a while"!

The location is very good during the day with the market only one block away and Long Street just two blocks away. However, the area definitely takes a turn for the worse in the evening and I would not recommend walking about here at night.

The hotel is very easy to find. It is on the corner of St Georges Mall and Church Street - very close to Parliament. A rental car is recommended. Parking is provided in "Mandela Rhodes Place" - a hotel and shopping complex located diagonally opposite the Holiday Inn Express. Parking is very expensive (even by South African standards) and I paid ZAR85 for parking from 10pm to 8am!

The hotel is well located for central Cape Town, and you can walk to many tourist attractions - even the V&A Waterfront, but it would be a healthy walk. We did not have dinner at the hotel but at the excellent Col'Cacchio restuarant on Hans Strijdom Street.

Reception desk is on the first floor, accessed by lift or stairs. We had a problem in that our registration sheet had not been prepared, so I had to hand write all my details in despite being a Platinum level member of Holiday Inn's Priority Club loyalty programme. Also I had to argue over whether I had prepaid or not (my paperwork said I had - but the hotel reckons they had not been credited with funds). Luckily it was late evening and reception was quiet.

The room impressed. I was expecting more of the same HI Express that I'm used to in UK and Europe but the room was decorated and furnished to a much higher standard. Very clever use of low voltage lighting (subtle blue LED in the bathroom). Comfortable beds with luxury duvets and choice of pillows. LCD TV (sadly no BBC or SkyNews, just CNN). Tea and Coffee facilities in the room. Deep pile carpeting. Thick blackout curtains.

The bathroom is the usual HI Express type where the main door doubles as the toilet door. All in white tiles - very clean. Nice towels and a complimentary shower gel and shampoo in little bottles. Shower was nice and strong and hot.

We had the free, included continental breakfast at the hotel. It's served on the 1st floor, adjacent to reception in an open plan area which doubles as a bar/lounge at night. Good spread for breakfast including cheese and cold meats. We sat outside on the balcony and watched the Capetonians heading to work.

Overall, a great stay. Excellent location and great value for money. WOuld definitely stay again.

We stayed for one night when we ended up an extra night in Cape Town at the last minute. We were pleasantly surprised. It's a fairly new modern hotel. The rooms are small but clean and the price was great.

I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights on a short break to Cape Town. The Holiday Inn Express is a modern hotel and has only been open a year. I found the location to be perfect; in the heart of Cape Town's main shopping area and only a 5 minute walk away from the regular open topped Tourist sightseeing bus.

The rooms were a reasonable size with a good bathroom and power shower. Housekeeping was excellent and the hotel had a clean, new feel about it. I was travelling alone so the double bed was quite adequte for me but I think it would be quite cramped for a couple! I did actually overhear two guests complaining at reception and asking if they had rooms with bigger beds but they were told "no"

Breakfast was included in the room rate and whilst not a lavish offering it was perfectly adequate.

The hotel is not located at the main Waterfront area but rather in the city centre but a taxi there will only cost you about £3.00 and can be ordered from the hotel.

All in all a very pleasant stay at a nice hotel which was well located. It was noticably cheaper than those at the Waterfront too.

Stayed here for 4 nights while attending Africa Com. There was a mix up with our reservation so had to hang around the lobby for over an hour while it was sorted out. No answer machine in room and front desk did not deliver any of the telephone messages I received despite their assurances to the various callers that a note would be placed under our door.

Complaints over, the hotel is conveniently located in the city center, taxis are readily available and we had 2 excellent meals at Riboville next door. Our room was good sized with a comfortable bed. All very clean. Not much storage apart from few hangers. The breakfast was good.

I recently stayed at this hotel for 3 nights and I think it's the best I could get for around US$100 a night. Hotel is located at St George's Mall which is a pedestrian street in the centre of Cape Town.

I made my reservation at their website and when I arrived it was ok. They gave me a room in the fifth floor and it was nice and clean. Maybe small, but I was only looking for a place to leave my luggage and sleep, so it was ok.

Room has no fridge, but there's a bucket cooler available that you can fill with ice at the drinks dispenser located near the reception. It also has a flat screen TV, a safe inside the closet that you can setup with your own code, a bed of course and a bathroom.

The bathroom is small, so when you open the door entirely, it closes the area where the toilet is located. The shower has a hand-held showerhead so you can use it with your hand or just leave it on the stand.

When you arrive to the hotel you need to take the elevator to the first floor where the reception is located. The bar is right next to it, and there's an area where they serve breakfast in the morning (limited buffet with cereals, toast, bread, milk, no eggs, no omelette). As I mentioned, there's a drinks dispenser in that area, where you can buy soda, flavored milk, water and energy drinks.

The "business center" consists of two PCs located in the corner of this area. Internet access is not free, it costs around US$ 25 per day, so if you require something cheaper, there's an Internet cafe just around the corner.

The area where the hotel is located, has some nearby restaurants and is safe to walk by day, but very quiet and lonely by night.

The best way to know the city from here is to walk south by St. George's Mall (when you get outside the hotel, go to the left) and go to the St. George's Cathedral which is one block away. Just by the parking lot of the Cathedral you will find a stop for citysightseeing double deck bus and its schedule. It costs around US$ 12 and it takes you to some museums, the Castle, Table Mountain, Camps Bay and V&A Waterfront. It's hop-on/hop-off so you can buy one ticket and take several rides on the day. Then on return, get to the same stop where you started and walk to the hotel.

The only complaint I can think is that Internet access is expensive, and maybe that there's no restaurant so you need to eat something somewhere else. But anyway, my idea of traveling is not to remain in a hotel, so in the end this place is really nice, it's still new so you will find it clean, and has a great rate compared to other near hotels.

Thank you for taking the time to post your review. Your comments are most appreciated.

There are various options for the internet usage from 30 minute purchase to 24 hour purchase.

Please note that we do have two restaurants located about 10 metres from the entrance of the hotel where guests can sign the restaurant bill to their hotel account. One of the restaurants will deliver food to the hotel and the full menu is in the guest room. There is also another restaurant that is going to be situated directly below the hotel where guests will be able to enjoy Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner and this should be open by the end of November.
