“Great views of Cape Town”
Reviewed 28 November 2011

Great B&B well located in Cape Town. My room was small, with no bath (shower only) but had great views of the mountain and the harbour. I stayed here for business and had to leave for meetings quite early every day, so didn't really get an opportunity to have breakfast, which was a pity because it looked great!

We stayed in so many wonderful guesthouses that I can't even pick a favorite but de Tafelberg in Cape Town might be it. Ann and Kris (the owners) were extremely helpful in setting up dinners for us in advance, calling cabs, and giving us advice on what to see in Cape Town.

De Tafelberg is located in the Oranjezicht area of Cape Town at the base of Table Mountain. The guesthouse is decorated beautifully. Our room was on the lower floor and opened out onto the pool area.

Breakfast was served every morning from 8 am to 10 am and was delicious. Many different things to choose from and Ann and Kris will cook bacon, eggs, and other breakfast foods to order. There's also meats, cheeses, yogurts, several different kinds of juices, and cereals.

There is fenced in parking so you don't have to worry about anything being taken out of your car overnight.

There is an honor bar that offers wine and cold drinks that was very convenient for an after dinner drink or a cool drink in the afternoon.

Our favorite part is the little cabana out by the pool. You can use it to lounge around in when the sun becomes too hot during the day or to have a drink or read a book at night.

I really can't say enough about this place and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Cape Town.

My father, niece and myself had 3 days in Cape Town. Our flights were severely delayed - and we did not arrive until late evening - not a problem for Ann and Kris.

Location - 5 mins drive from the Cable Car for Table Mountain, 5 mins from the Mount Nelson - nice and central, clean and also quiet.

We told Ann and Kris of what we were wanting to see and do. They then advised us as to what was realistic and what was not - they also advised us of the weather. Their advice and time-frames for doing things were spot on.

Food in the evenings - again we asked for their advice - they asked us what kind of food we liked and recommended places and arranged taxis for us. Ann and Kris - thank you for the advice - again - spot on - would gladly go back to the restaurants they advised..

Checking in and out - easy and simple.

If I am back in Cape Town I would definitely attempt to stay with them again as first choice.

Anna and Chris are wonderful hosts in this centrally located guest house. A breakfast that will last you through lunch, beautiful view over the town, pool and well appointed rooms make this a great place to stay.

We stayed for 4 nights in Feb. After a 3 hour drive fron Gansbaai, we arrived and were shown to our ' de luxe' rooms. They were by means de -luxe, we had a room on the top floor, which was clean and nice enough, although the bathroom was nice, the bedroom was a bit tired. Our freinds shown to next room found they had been allocated a double room with 2 single beds!, they asked to be moved, and maybe this was upset anne the owner, she reluctantly moved them downstairs to a room with no air conditioning, and a closet size bathroom, again a bit tired, all the loos has fluffy covers!, not what you would expect in a 4 star guesthouse. The communal lounge was very nice, and spacious no complaints there.
Breakfast was a bit hit and miss, we were only offered a cooked breakfast on twice, on one morning my husband didn't even get offered tea/coffee.
We also found that the honesty bar very expensive compared to the other one 4 star and two 5 star guest houses we stayed in.
The pool was dirty, and owners dog took a swim a few times in it.
We also did not find the owners wife at all friendly, she barely spoke to us, and when we left did not even come out to say goodbye.
Also by a very noisy road.
Overall, a real let down at the end of what was a fantastic holiday.
