I recently took a two week trip to South Africa with my girlfriend to visit her brother . One week in Cape Town and then one week on the road.We stayed at the Romney Lodge in Green Point for seven nights. The whole time of our stay I felt like I was at home.Philips hospitality and great knowledge of the area proved vital for what I like to call ''Big Fun''. Mama Eunice's contagious smile and custom breakfast started off our days adventure perfectly.Simon served us with smiles, chat and laughter. I just loved hanging by the plunge pool editing pictures from our day travels and sharing pictures and stories with the other travelers. If the sun got too hot there was beautiful shade trees and a canvas covered couch to seek some shadeThe common area really provided us a fine oasis in our little slice of Green Point. The rooms and especially the beds were very comfortable. After a very successful day fishing Philip excepted my invitation to dinner down on the waterfront. The restaurant across from the boat slip cooked up ''the catch of the day''. I gave some fish to some ''street guys'' and I brought ten back for Simon and his son and truly felt like the ''King of Cape Town'' for one meal providing so many new friends with dinner.I was very happy with our stay at The Romney Lodge and I was very sad to leave but we will be back, truly a special place.

Room Tip: I only saw a few rooms but the ones that I saw seemed all very nice to stay in.

Phil, Mama Eunice and Simon came to our rescue when our accommodation in Cape Town was unavailable when we arrived…we arrived 30 December so you can image how hard it was to find alternative accommodation! However our agent found Romney lodge and we are so glad they did. SO ONE MASSIVE THANK YOU TO THE THREE OF YOU – our new year would not have been as fantastic if we hadn’t have found you.

We arrived at the guesthouse New Years Eve reluctantly left on the 3 January. The guesthouse was in an ideal location for the V&A, which was brilliant for any New Years celebration – very easy to walk to and recommend it. The lodge was beautifully decorated throughout and such attention to detail that we are sure there will be a couple of ideas creeping into our house sometime soon!

Phils knowledge of the local area was invaluable. Helped us endlessly getting around and finding some gems in the local area. He is a friendly, approachable gentleman and welcomes everyone who comes into his home with welcome arms.

Phil – you can add us to your list of regulars as when we are back in Cape Town, there is only one place we will be staying – yours, Romney Lodge!

Our family of five spent four nights over New Year at this beautiful lodge/B&B and enjoyed it very much. The quiet location at a 20 min walking distance from V&A was perfect for us. The little pool and the sun deck was a nice place to spend the mornings as well as the afternoon after activities and in the night after dinner. The invisible border between inside and outdoor of the breakfast room was fabulous. The host's sense for art and culture in every detail was admirable and the cheerful and friendly staff made the whole stay very pleasant. The rooms were nicely decorated, comfortable and very clean, bathrooms small but ok. We give this B&B our very best recommendations.

Philip and Eunice made us feel more than at home. The service was extraordinary! The rooms were absolutely sweet.

Service and location better than most hotels!

We loved Eunices fresh breakfast.
We loved Philips spleen for antique suitcases.
We loved the Romney Lodge.

We will most certainly come again and recommend the lodge to anyone!

Thanks for a great stay!

When we entered the house we already knew that we had made a good choice. Phillip has made this place into a little gem, we were impressed by the attention to detail and décor. The house is one of the oldest in this part of town and the mixture of old architecture with partly modern interior and art was stunning in our opinion. Phillip is a great host who will also be able to help you out with maps, activity and dinner suggestions.

The location is great, easy walking (or short cab ride) to the Waterfront. There is also parking available, so no hassle if you have a rental car.

The rooms are wonderful. We had the luxury suite (I would love to live in it!) and also a standard room that was smaller but equally nice. The common areas are also beautiful, we loved to come home after dinner, relax on the porch and browse through the coffee table books with a cider.

Finally, breakfast was a delight! Mama Eunice and Simon are so much fun in the morning and they cook up a hot breakfast that will keep you full. Breakfast starts already at 7 (until 10, I think), this is great as you will be able to get an early start into the day in case you have planned a trip to Table Mountain or the cape.

If we go back to Capetown, we will definitely stay here again!
