“Great Hotel Great Location”
Reviewed 30 September 2012

Tucked away behind the V&A waterfront this hotel is the perfect location for staying in Cape Town . Only a handfull of rooms and each designed and furnished to the highest standards. Step out from your room onto the private lawn and enter an oasis in the bustle of Cape Town - personal service with nothing too much trouble. Nice touches like nibbles with the turn down service. Kelly and her team sorted out a Safari and a wine tour for us with providers of similar quality.Although the facillities of the Dock House's two sister hotels are available we enjoyed the great service at the Dock House

My wife and I stayed at the Dock House for five nights during a recent trip to Cape Town. The level of service offered by the staff and management exceeds anything I have expereinced during my personal and business trips, this includes stays at numerous high-end luxury chains (InterContinental, RC, 4S and local boutiques). I was also impressed by the size and quality of rooms. I found the location great and also enjoyed the creative and quality breakfast menu. Wonderful stay. Thanks!!

Room Tip: Room 1 for size or room 3, 4 or 5 for views of the waterfront.

We spent our final six days of our Western Cape trip here, and to be honest we should have gotten rid of the hire car, it just sat outside for the great majority of the time!

We were really lucky to have booked at a time when the hotel's one suite was on offer at 2995 rand per night. SO worth it, a seperate lounge with TV, drinks cabinet (pay), desk, sofas and chairs etc. A huge bathroom. Beautiful fresh flowers throughout the suite, complimentary bottle of champagne on arrival. And a little private courtyard off the bedroom with a waterfall. It didnt get much sun, although it was nice to have the windows open and to listen to the water cascading.

Michelle and her team were excellent. Breakfasts were of an extremely high quality and very varied - you could never get bored. The take on eggs benedict but with turkey and avocado was a revelation - if somewhat big portion wise. i just about forced myself to eat it though :)

The poolside bar was pleasant for lunch. although the proximity to the seafront does mean that you need to check for bird droppings before sitting down and make sure you are out of the line of fire. The lamb burger is very moreish. The seagulls like the pool too, so if you are likely to be offended by this best to stay away - there isnt much the hotel can do apart from employing full time bird scarers. Garden is pretty too with lots of varied flowers and shrubs.

No problems with loungers on our stay, apart from one weekend day just after lunch (maybe 2 p.m.?) when quite a few families turned up.

As others have said, this is perfectly located to walk over (well, down and over) to the V&A waterfront whilst missing most of the noise associated with it. Lots of restaurant choices there, from memory we did Indian, Italian, in a more upmarket French restaurant, a Dutch one - there is more than enough choice for everyone. Having said that, we headed off the V&A Waterfront and over to the 1800 degree restaurant at the Cape Royale and that was by far the best meal we had. On out last day we had an absolute deluge - so were very grateful for the cinema and other diversions nearby.

We also used the spa and although our treaments were reasonably priced and competently delivered, the recommendations for products to take away were extremely expensive and it felt less relaxing and more like a sales opportunity - a shame really, the only low point during the stay.

Room Tip: The Suite is well worth a premium over the other rooms, but failing that a second floor room with ba...

This is a terrific hotel - in one of my favourite cities. The care and attention to detail is very impressive. The restaurant looks good, though we only used it for breakfast, as the waterfront location makes it just too easy to stroll around and take in the vast range of top-class local cuisine on offer. The rooms are large, light and delightful, with attractive views. While there, I asked the hotel to arrange a small reception in the gardens for about business and university 20 guests, which they managed very efficiently - though at a price! It really is the perfect location for this type of event. I was addressed by name throughout my 3 day stay, which is always encouraging. I'm sure there are several far cheaper options in Cape Town, but I doubt if there's anywhere more pleasurable to stay. Treat yourself!

We just returned from four days at the Dock house and it was wonderful. Perfect location on the waterfront, beautiful big rooms in a smaller, intimate hotel, and very helpful staff. Can't say enough good things.

You've probably found the Dock House because you are picky. Good choice. The V & A is a waste of space, commerical, contrived rubbish (Liverpool 1). Ok for an hour while you aclimatise.

Dock House, Rooms Dreamy, Breakfast Superb, Garden and Pool lovverly. Staff A plus

Try Camps Bay for a safe fun day OR night out. Taxis are A OK.

What a lucky find this boutique hotel was. With only 6 rooms it was a calm place to return to each day -at least on those days that we could bear to leave it! Our room on the first floor was beautiful with fabulous decor and furnishings. The bathroom was a spa in itself. The finishing touch was the long verandah where we enjoyed sitting with a sparkling glass at sun down and watching the ferris wheel turning as it presided over the V&A waterfront.
The staff were unfailingly helpful and really made us feel special. Full marks to all at the Dock House
