“Like a family home on the V&A Waterfront”
Reviewed 2 July 2013

The Dockhouse is a wonderful small hotel right by the V&A Waterfront. The rooms are large and very well appointed and we stayed in two adjoining rooms (with a connecting door) which, as we did, anyone with children would find a real bonus.

The staff, led by the lovely Kelly, are all fantastically friendly and helpful. Kelly gave us excellent recommendations for local restaurants and helped make advance bookings to various sights (a good idea).

The hotel has a small gym with modern equipment and a great view from the running machines! The spa was also excellent.

This is one of those rare hotels that we would recommend completely and without any hesitation.

A few other general hints: The rooms have plenty of plugs - mostly South African three round pin variety - but ours also had a British-style three pin plug point and a European-style two pin plug point.

Dock House is a small hotel located across the street from the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town and all it has to offer. (there is a back gate you can access with your key.) This is a great location for food, drink, shopping, accessing Hop On Hop Off bus, Robben Island, and walkable to downtown. There was a bit of noise from bars along the Waterfront, but they shutdown at midnight, even on weekends.

The room was beautiful with a great porch. The customer service was top-notch. We were assisted with purchasing tickets, arranging transportation, etc. Everyone we encountered were completely delightful and helpful. Cannot say enough about how wonderful the service was at Dock House.

I did not use the spa, but my colleague did and enjoyed it.

The Dock House is a cozy historic hotel that offers relaxation in the quaint and charming six room property. Before Cape Town's harbor shores were expanded, water came to the edge of this property, which is elevated from the city below and surrounded by a tall brick wall. As the name implies, the grounds served as a dock house offering guidance to ships in the night. The Dock House makes you feel like home... like you're a guest at a friend's place. I loved the colonial feel and beautiful chandeliers (not to mention a welcome bottle of champagne!). The Dock House is a special place with smiling faces and experienced, professional service. I highly recommend a stay. Brunch at The Dock House is delicious with beautiful fruit, fresh squeezed OJ mimosas, and yummy Eggs Benedict.

This is a delightful boutique hotel. It has sister hotels nearby but the joy of this hotel is that it lacks that impersonal corporate feel and the personal service and attention to detail are superb.
My husband struggles with mobility and the manager noticed his crestfallen face at the sight of the staircase and at the click of a mouse magically produced a delightful ground floor room complete with private patio. The location is superb just a few minutes from the Victoria and Albert waterfront and with a backdrop of Table mountain. The breakfasts were sublime - try the fruit platter with yogurt and the eggs benedict. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble for the staff. tea, coffee, confirming onward reservations. Turn down service was excellent- flower on the pillow and in the bathroom, slippers, chocolates ....
It is a blissful oasis in the midst of the buzzing vibrant waterfront of Cape Town

Room Tip: The downstairs suite is vast with lounge, bathroom and bedroom and private patio but for rooms with...

We just checked out and I would happily go back to stay a week. Kelly was fantastically friendly, the entire small hotel oozed luxury and style. It was perfectly positioned on the waterfront in cape town and a very calm retreat, like staying in your own luxury house with everything being perfect. The spa exceeded my expectations, the gym looked great and the lawn and pool area superb. We stayed in room 502, well 2 really as there are only six rooms. It was the largest room we have stayed in while on a two week trip here and the bathroom was majestic.

I would most certainly go back to the dock house when next in cape town. We also stayed one night at the start of our trip at the cape grace which was nice also but not as romantic, more like an first class business hotel in comparison. However it was also nice and I am just noting this because I have read comparisons of the two.

The Dock House is truly memorable in comparison and very very friendly.

Room Tip: We saw a few of the rooms and they all seemed perfectly nice. Ours was exceptional in that it was so...
