“Recommended luxury hotel”
Reviewed 19 June 2014

Good luxury hotel with views of the Table Mountain from most rooms. Rooms and bathrooms are large, well appointed and do not disappoint. Good food. The business center offers free browsing. Friendly staff.

We were welcomed at the One and Only with lots of warmth and friendliness which was lovely as we were there for a special occasion. The room they gave us was a corner room and absolutely gorgeous - views of the harbour and mountain.
Everything was great from the moment we arrived until the moment we left - in the hotel itself… however the spa has no atmosphere (just to say that my masseuse was amazing though) and we spent hardly any time there at all - which is very unusual for us. They have separate areas for men / women and as we were there for a romantic night away not really the point at all.
We ate at Rebeun's restaurant and although the food was faultless it wasn't particularly exciting and the atmosphere of the restaurant was very squash-court like - no romance at all.
All in all, the hotel is amazing - the staff are super friendly and we would definitely return but the spa and restaurants are very much lacking.

Room Tip: We had room 320 and it was GORGEOUS.

My wife and I spent three nights at The One&Only as part of our 25th wedding anniversary visit to South Africa. This was our 1st stop and the visit set the tone for a wonderful trip. The staff was courteous, professional, and friendly while the guest accommodations, dining, and spa facilities were top notch. But above all, the attitude of the staff to accommodate our needs was right out of the customer service handbook. When we left, I mentioned to the day manager there were top hotels in the U.S. that could learn from The One&Only.

Most of the luxury hotels/resorts we have been to are generally pretty expansive and spread out. O&O came across as a pretty compact luxury property given its entrance, lobby, the restaurants, and four floor of rooms and an Island wing. It became all the more obvious when we had one group during our stay.
The location is great - walking distance from the V&A waterfront - the most happening place in the evenings and for shopping as well. Plus there is a nice aquarium adjacent to the property for families besides the kids club in the hotel. The rooms were large and luxurious, well appointed with great amenities - the best part was the open balconies with great views of the Table Mountain or the bay. Luckily the room we got had two separate balconies with a view of both ! We were very happy with the choice of in-room tea and coffee (Nespresso), fruit basket and a well-stocked mini-bar (not too expensive!). The bathroom was quite nice with a oval bathtub and a good choice of toiletteries. Our room service experience was also very good with a regular turn-down service in the evenings. We did have a broken curtain drawing rod and some stains in the sink but it doesn't take away the overall comfort levels of the room.
The spa was nice but kinda staid or maybe we were too tired to enjoy it. We had a few meals, but mostly breakfast in the Reuben and the morning spread was quite good with choices of coffee. The general interaction with the staff and service standards were also very nice. A very comfortable & pleasant stay and recommended to all.

Room Tip: Choose rooms numbered 220, 320,420 - as these are corner rooms with two balconies - overlooking the...

We travel a lot, and generally stay in Four Seasons properties when available. From now on I think we'll stay in One&Only properties even if there's a Four Seasons nearby. The O&O Cape Town is exceptional and truly one of the best hotel experiences we've every had, anywhere in the world.

Our airport pickup (and dropoff a few days later) was perfect, in a clean Mercedes. Just what we needed after nearly 30 hours of flying from California. Checkin was efficient, with all of our requests noted. We were upgraded to an Island Suite (thanks to Amex FH&R) which was spectacular - well worth a bit more of a walk. The room was perfect, and we always like a suite after crossing multiple time zones as whoever (ie me) has the worst jet lag can go into the front room without disturbing the lucky one (ie wife) that can sleep. Amenities were top notch, furnishings the best - in fact we took some photos of the bathrooms (yes, plural) and furniture as ideas for our own home remodel. One minor critique (I had to find something!): the light switches are confusing, especially with the dimming function. Neatly labeled, but that doesn't work well when there are five switches in the bathroom labeled "bath."

We ate at Reubens two nights and loved it. Great cuisine, and we especially loved that the vegetarian options were noted. The wine menu was very good, and even the wines by the glass were exceptional. The cocktail menu could use some work - a basic mojito or lemon drop would have been nice. Nobu was equally good, with great sushi options.

What really made the trip special were the day tours through on-site Jihat Tours. We did a "Best of Cape" tour one day, and a "Township Tour" another day. Nathan, our driver, was fantastic - especially with the township tour. Whereas most of the township tours go to 2 or 3 different townships, Nathan took us to just one (Langa). However before going he set the context and perspective, from his own personal experience. We went to District Six in Cape Town where he used to live, learned how the residents were forcibly relocated in the 60s, visited the District Six Museum to see artifacts and articles from the time period, and only then went on to Langa. Very, very moving, and it truly made the trip. Thanks Nathan!

Finally, the spa really does deserve the awards it has received, including "best hotel spa in Africa and the Middle East." Great facility and the treatments were fantastic. My massage with Elisa (sp?) was among the best I've ever had.

Well done, and we'll be searching out One&Only properties in the future.

Room Tip: The Island Suites are worth the walk.

Right from the welcome drink and the excellent rooms and the warmth and the service, each aspect is simply outstanding. The rooms are wide and spacious with nice balconies on the island rooms . The property with its canal interface is great. And a ferry to V&A waterfront is hop skip and jump. We were part of a large delegation which stayed there last few days and were well taken care off. Wifi free in rooms is a plus ! Views of table mountain engulf you and the place has a airy , ventilated and bright feel.

Cant´t say enough from this wonderful hotel at Cape Town. The room was excelent overviewing the Table Mountain, welcome drink on arrival, very freindly staff all times, kids club with full dedication, concierge with especialists and there was even money exchange at the front desk with no extra fees. Trust me, you cannot stay in a better plpace in Cape Town.
