I went to Buzbeys based on a recommendation. Ours was a table of 14, and the restaurant was full, so we expected some form of delay in receiving our meals. However the wait was worth it as the food was superb. I had a sirloin with a Dijon sauce. I have eaten steak all over the world but have never experienced the taste sensation of every mouthful being better than the last.
The décor and comfort might not be worth writing home about but I will return there often simply because the food was memorable and far better than most restaurants offering steak as their specialty.

The steaks are grilled to perfection, the stir-fry is really good, the price is fair - so why will I never return and why do I rate it terrible, the answer is simple.
One eats out for 3 reasons:
1 the food is good
2 the ambiance is good
3 the service is good
Some years ago I was "force" to eat at Buzbey Grill as a close friend of mine was a regular, the owner Jimmy may be known for his ability to grill a great steak, but what he lacks is how to treat customers, in those days he did not supply chilli sauce or most other condiments, we went one evening the place was near empty and even though my friend was a regular we were ushered to a table that we did not want to sit at, and we asked to be moved to another table it was a flat no, another midweek evening we booked a table for 4 and only three of us arrived, he was enraged.
i am sure that in the 40 odd years of grilling steaks in Sea Point he has amassed a large amount of friends and followers that will disagree with me.

A visit to CT without going to the Buzeby Grill is not an option... Jimmy is still there and going strong with his usual flair. We had an enjoyable first night back in CT and tried to gain entry to be notified ' we are not open till 6pm'..... obviously we returned and had the usual goregous steaks. we were fortunate when we visited as Jimmy and co were going on vacation for 3 weeks the following day!!!!! Keep up the good work Jimmy and Staff. EXCELLENT FOOD NOT TO BE MISSED!!!!!

Buzbey Grill has been in Sea Point for as long as I can remember....and that's quite some time. Jimmy is still manning the grill that is located in one corner of the room. He greets a lot of patrons with handshake and a couple of words...you know you are in a comfortable place. The decor seems to come from the '70s and Jimmy seems to have been around for that time too. But you don't come here for the decor or the frills. Meat with a capital M is the name of the game. Jimmy will cut your piece of meat to order and then prepare it with the hand of many years of experience....perfect. But also the other food on the limited menu is prepared well. The sardines starter is chillied and the meat falls from the fish-bone....great. The salads are basic, but fresh and crispy. Deserts are again basic...but sufficient: Ice-cream with chocolate sauce, chocolate mousse etc. Standard beers come from the bottle and the wine list is middle-class, but like everything else very reasonably priced. If you don't like it, bring your own: The corkage is again very reasonable. So...avoid if you are looking for haute cuisine where you pay for the design of your dish more than for the substance; go if you are hungry and look for an excellent steak in a congenial atmosphere and don't want to be overcharged. Nice!

A hidden gem. Faded old world continental decor but one of the best value for money treats in Cape Town. Grill house with crisp white damask table cloths. The corkage is very reasonable and the steak and chips are simply delicious !
