My first acquaintance with the Hildebrand dates back to the mid-eighties when it was still a restaurant of high repute in town. This was my first visit at its premises in the waterfront.
We stopped for a light lunch - fish cakes for my wife and fresh oysters for me. Nothing wrong with the food but nothing special either. The ambience is pretty average for the waterfront and starts to appear in need of a bit of a face lift. (The toilets are downright tatty). Service was decidedly on the slow side.
The place seems to have downgraded from its former splendour to just another tourist trap in the waterfront.
