Wow, we ended up at Societi Bistro purely by chance, and walked away with a new favorite on our list!

A glorious day in Cape Town and we sat outside. Fantastic view of Table Mountain and the food did not disappoint.

Brilliant cuisine, excellent service and the best Key Lime Pie in town. Yummyness!! Heaven on a plate.

Definitely recommending this jewel to all.

Thank ElizevN

This cosy and characterful restaurant is as perfect for a warm summer evening as it is for a blustery cape storm day. It resides in a warm, welcoming house with a pretty outdoor setting and an intimate interior with cosy, separate rooms. It feels homely and personal despite its enviable and deserved reputation for good times and good eating, without any attempt at pretentiousness. We enjoyed a tasty ostrich burger lunch alongside a delightful fireplace on a cold afternoon. It came served with hand-cut, freshly prepared fries (yummy) and a spicy slaw salad. Proportions were generous and though preparation time was a little slow, the wait in pleasant surrounds made up for it. The burger pattie seemed a little over-minced though, the texture was too soft and the burger roll could have been crisper. The wine and mushroom sauce (an extra) was fabulous and service was attentive and unobtrusive. All in all, definitely a very relaxing, romantic and enjoyable dining experience

While visiting Cape Town for four days in May, our guide, Zakkie Parker, dropped us off for an early dinner at this lovely bistro. We had just finished our first full day in CPT and were heading "home" to our rented apartment when Zakkie suggested we try this for an early dinner. It was about 5 pm and we were able to walk right in but found out the first available reservation was for 8 pm, so we were in luck!
We both ordered the Annika Larsen which was spaghetti with a lemon cream sauce with parsley and it was out of this world! The flavors all blended together and the lemon had a great kick to the sauce. The home made bread was just as tasty and it was baked right there. We didn't have dessert as we had hoped to return, but didn't.
When you're in CPT, make sure you check this out but do have reservations if you eat later than we did. We found eating in CPT to be very reasonable and cheaper than in the U.S. Societi Bistro is a very romantic place inside with the candles and atmosphere but the outside patio looked fun as well.

Fun meal with the family! Pluses: Venison bourguignon and salads (Autumn salad a highlight, butternut salad also very good). Pnina Fenster pasta delicious. Chocolate Nemesis to die for. Rest of the meals were good without being great. I have had better lamb shank.. Quality was good, but I liked the sauces more in other Cape Town restaurants, including the Black Dog. Good selection of wines by the glass and I was allowed to taste to ensure I got good pairings. Waiters were great and attentive. Bill, excluding tip, was Rand 1450 for a 3 course meal for 5 pax including wine for 2 adults and shared desserts. A real bargain for the experience.

We had my Mom's 76th birthday lunch here. Its an old building so the restaurant is a few rooms which makes a cozy feeling. The fires were warm and soft warm blankets are provided if you feel cold. 3 of our group are vegetarians and choice for them was excellent. The service was friendly and the descriptions the waiter gave of the specials were so good we had to taste them. Wine selection was good and not overpriced. We were even able to taste our selection before buying it.
All round a wonderful experience.
