My wife and I stayed here for our first two nights on our first ever trip to S Africa. After an overnight flight we arrived early at around 9.30 and by 10.30 they had managed to get a room ready for us and enabled an early check in (at no extra charge). This typified the high levels of service that this hotel prides itself on. The staff were unfailing pleasant and helpful throughout. The main reception area has been converted from a former bank building and features soaring double height ceilings supported by marble pillars. Decor is similarly sumptuous and the whole place oozed class. Our room was large, complete with king size bed, a number of arm chairs, a lovely wooden writing table, a cabinet housing the well stocked honesty bar fridge and complimentary tea/coffee etc. The bathroom was also very large, with a massive walk in shower as well as a bath. After our long journey from the UK this was exactly what we needed.
The hotel is situated near the centre of the older part of Cape Town, at the bottom end of Company's Gardens and almost directly opposite bus stop 5 on the tourist red route bus service. It takes about 20 - 30 minutes of casual walking to/from the V&A waterfront, or a 10 minute taxi ride. This part of town is bustling during the day with open air markets lining the largely pedestrianised streets. Several of Cape Town's museums are also nearby. In the end we wished we could have stayed longer to explore these streets in more detail. At night the area is relatively quiet, but with a few bars and restaurants nearby. We ate in on our first night and the food was excellent.
Some might want to be a little closer to the tourist orientated activity at the V&A waterfront. But if you want to get a better feel for the true heart of the city, or just a little luxury to ease your travels, I cannot recommend this place highly enough.

The success of this hotel is driven by the staff. From remembering your name to knowing what beverage you enjoy - they are all well versed in the fine art of customer service. The hotel décor is rich and heavy - conservative, elite which is a very nice change from a lot of new hotels wanting to impress with crazy décor. This is not a stuffy stiff upper lip hotel either - the atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming. We stayed for 6 nights - breakfasts great with changes daily. Room service food very good and of course the Brasserie was simply stunning. Fish curry to die for!! Highly recommended.

Any words trying to explain the view from the rooms of table mountain could not do enough justice, breath taking just doent cut it. Massive rooms perfect for couples and solos, the beds you can lay width ways ( maybe a struggle if your are over 6ft 2, however there is always length ways)
Very peronsal touch with welcome letters, and greeting on plazma TV.
Would recommend not to stray to far from the hotel after dusk. tried this and lets just say ended up turning back.

We stayed 4 nights in a well appointed suite but with a no view. The great majority of the staff was very polite and pleasant, only one at the reception counter was quite unpleasant upon our arrival. We would have like to eat at the Indian Brasserie located on the premises but we could not get a reservation for 2 even if we called 24hrs in advance so book early if you think you would like to try it. The food available for breakfast was tasteful and plentiful.

Room Tip: Ask for a room looking toward Table Mountain. Walking around the hotel would be at your own risk aft...

Stayed 2 nights with my daughter and her 9 month old baby in a twin room with baby cot. Requested a synthetic duvet for one of the beds and when we arrived found that both beds only had a thin blanket on. We asked for a synthetic duvet & were told the hotel does not have them and brought us a down duvet. The next night there was no duvet on the bed so we had to phone housekeeping again, this time to be told if we were cold we should turn the air conditioner heat up! A down duvet was brought to the room for night. Both breakfast & lunch was disappointing and not what we were expecting plus we had to wait ages for a high chair. We had room service on both nights and again, was disappointed with the food & was horrified to be served instant mashed potato & not fresh mash!! On the plus side we were given a room high up and the view was amazing. The room too, was lovely and very clean. Would probably not stay at this hotel again.

Room Tip: Choose a room on a high floor for a better view

We had an absolutely fantastic stay at the Taj. The service is outstanding, the people are extremely friendly and the entire staff is focused on personal attention to every detail. The food in the hotel is of excellent quality and the wait staff is courteous and attentive without being intrusive. This is one of the finest hotels we have ever stayed and we will make it a point to make Taj hotels our first choice wherever they have a location. This is the model for all 5 star hotels!!

Room Tip: Book a room facing Table Mountain. You may never want to leave the room for the view!
