“Perfect place to stay in Cape Town”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 July 2014

No detail is overlooked when you stay with Anne and Bruce at the Underberg Guest House. The house's guest rooms and common spaces are lovely, breakfast has something for everyone and the location is ideal. Most important is the warm personal touch that Anne and Bruce provide. They helped with car service to and from the airport as well as excellent tour guides and all round nice people (Chris and Sean) who allowed us to visit the nearby wine country and Cape of Good Hope without having to have a designated driver or worry about driving the coastal highways while getting used to driving on the left hand side of the road. In town, we had maps, directions and help with reservations as well as helpful advice. When we return to Cape Town this is where we will stay.

The Underberg Guest House was wonderful and lived up to the standards set by all amazing reviews that I read. We had an absolutely lovely stay in Cape Town and at the Underberg Guest House and only wish we could have stayed longer.

The Underberg Guest House is a gorgeous (and huge) 2-story house in a very good neighborhood in Cape Town. It is within walking distance from Long Street where the bar scene is, many wonderful restaurants and right in between the Waterfront and Table Mountain. It is an ideal location because it is situated right in the middle of all the sights but yet away from all the touristy madness as it is in a lovely residential area.

We arrived at Cape Town Airport late in the evening and Anne (the point of contact at Underberg) asked us whether we wished to arrange for car service. Given the late hour, we asked that they arrange car service for us and someone was waiting right outside the terminal with our names. Given the late hour of our arrival, the driver took us first to find food before taking us back to the Guesthouse.

We had a nice room on the second floor of the House with an en suite restroom. The bed was large and very comfy and each room came with a flat screen tv. The room itself was a good size, especially since it was just a bedroom. The room was also cleaned every day.

Breakfast is served downstairs in the dining room every morning from 7-10am-ish. They aren't strict on the end time for breakfast which is nice because they don't hurry you along if you end up sauntering into the dining room around 9:30am. They have a small buffet set up with just enough items for a good breakfast: fruit mixture, three types of bread to toast, a small cheese platter, a small meat platter, yogurt and juices. As soon as you arrive, Anne (or Bruce!) would come in, welcome you and ask what you would like to drink and take your order for hot food (i.e. eggs the way you want them, bacon, mushrooms and grilled tomatoes). While you are waiting for your breakfast, Anne is absolutely wonderful and extremely helpful. Anne will keep you informed on the weather (which for us was important as we were there during wintertime) and any events that are occurring in Cape Town that you may wish to check out. She also assists you in any planning that you need and offers advice if you request it. She will book any tickets you wish online for you and print out the necessary tickets.

The House also has a cute bar which is self-serve and on the honor system. They keep it well stocked with water, sodas, wines and hard liquor. Whatever you take, you will keep track of on the little book they keep in the bar and you can pay for your "tab" at the end when you check out.

We stayed in Cape Town for 6 days and wished that we could have stayed longer. We will most definitely be back in Cape Town and will stay at the Underberg Guest House.

I stayed at Underberg for five days whilst managing a tour group that was staying at the B&B next door.
Anne and Bruce were excellent hosts. They were really knowledgeable about Cape Town, what to do, where to go etc. The breakfasts were lovely and the room was superb.
Thank you for a lovely stay

We were greeted by Anne after a long flight with tea and cookies! The room/bathroom is large with high quality toiletries. Anne was a great resource in planning our travel and always available for questions. Highly recommend this place!!

We stayed here for 5 nights and loved it. The owners (we mostly dealt with Bruce since Ann was out of town) were very, very helpful - we couldn't have asked for more. Rooms were very comfortable and immaculate, and breakfast was delicious. This was also a perfect place to stay in Cape Town since it is in the middle of attractions. For a month of traveling in South Africa, this was our favorite place to stay. If you are traveling to Cape Town, do yourself a favor and stay here - you will not regret it!

I stayed here multiple times during my three months in South Africa (Jan-April 2014) and this guesthouse was first class; immaculate rooms, wonderful hosts Anne and Bruce willing to go the extra mile for their guests, wonderful in town location. Everything was perfect!!!!!
