We came here after a dinner in town and had a couple of evening drinks out on the terrace. Great atmosphere, good service and knowledgable bar staff. It is pricy, but it is worth it.

My wife and I had dinner here on our anniversary and were not disappointed, having been regulars at the hotel we wanted to be close to home for some casual fine dining. It has been a year since we were here and it was fantastic the menu selection has changed somewhat but I would say for the better,it now also caters for the more casual diner. Service excellent and we had a very nice bottle of red the mount Nelson reserve , pushed the boat out here. The new sommelier was fantastic and the service all round was great. It made it a very special night and we can't thank you enough. My tuna tartar was sublime as wax the aged rib eye my wife loved her duck terrine and springbok .

Well done to all

This was my 6th visit to the Planet restaurant, and my second visit in ten weeks. My wife reviewed the restaurant on our last visit http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUserReviews-g312659-d1992146-r177391484-Planet_Restaurant-Cape_Town_Central_Western_Cape.html#REVIEWS
We are due to stay at the Hotel in December and had expressed an interest in dining at the chefs table, or in one of the separate dining rooms (The Nellie has multiple dining options for small, medium and large groups of diners) We were greeted by Emmanuel the restaurant manager and given a “behind the scenes” tour of the Dining rooms and kitchen, including the chefs table concept as well as an introduction to Head Chef Rudi Liebenberg. It’s amazing to see how many people are working behind the scenes, all going about their work quietly and efficiently.
As we were lucky enough to be drinking Champagne I decided that oysters would be a perfect accompaniment, and despite the fact they weren’t featured on the menu, a platter appeared as if by magic. They were superb! A smaller variety that had a delicious taste to them (They’re not everybody’s favourite, but here they are excellent!) For the main course, and although not vegetarians, we chose the mushroom ravioli, it had a depth of flavour far greater than at first appeared, with several differing varieties on mushroom around and within the ravioli.
An excellent dessert followed, based around flavours of vahlrona blonde chocolate and amusingly called “The dumb blonde” We chose to round everything off with a goats cheese board, five differing cheeses served on a piece of slate with the names of the respective cheeses chalked around the “board” this was paired with an excellent dessert wine recommended by the new sommelier Pearl.
You can enjoy a great meal here and whilst it is great for a special occasion, any occasion will suffice! Knowledgeable Capetonians have already discovered that the Planet Bar is the perfect location to unwind after a hard day at work, or revive before an evening of wining and dining. Most however still seem oblivious to the charms of the Planet Restaurant, or perhaps they just feel it is somewhere to save for ‘best’ Whilst I might agree that the Planet is certainly one of the best restaurants in the western Cape, life is too short not to make dining here a regular and surprisingly affordable treat.
The beautifully appointed dining room and exquisite food may give the impression that such high end luxury is only reserved for the elite few, however this is far from true. The recent change in management has shown a very human face to this regal old dame. Staff are approachable and friendly as well as being knowledgeable and efficient. All are made welcome, and the restaurant, whilst not cheap, provides great value for money.

We stayed in the Mount Nelson and normally we only eat in the hotel restuarant one night but here we went three times during our weeks stay. The food is amazing the best in hotel restuarant food. Sevice is first class also.
