Owner description: Experience the drama of the world’s first human heart transplant performed by Prof. Chris Barnard in 1967 in the fully restored operating theatres where the surgery took place. The fascinating and very emotional stories of the donor, recipient and medical team involved are told on a fully guided, 2 hour tour with the help of life sized silicone models and replicas of important scenes. Certainly an experience not to be missed!

Have personally been here twice and it stays amazing! Good product offering and I think a good visit for anybody and also if you're in the medical field this is quite amazing! Will recommend this!

I was very impressed by the level of detail in this tour. They really did a good job recreating the build-up to the first heart transplant and the actual operation. I walked in not knowing a thing about the place other than that the first heart transplant happened there. By the end I felt like I knew Christian Barnard personally and like I had actually watched this historic event take place.
An excellent tour.

South Africa beat the world to it, when Dr. Christiaan Barnard transplanted the first human heart in 1967. This museum is located in Cape Town, at Groote Schuur Hospital. The original theatres were restored, and the set-up is like a real-life presentation of what it was like in those days. The whole story of that first heart transplant is told by artefacts and a wonderfully trained guide. The personal experiences of the family of the donor and of the first transplant patients are told, together with the experiences of Dr. Christiaan Barnard. A moving place with personal biography mixed with advances in medicine.

Don't miss this museum when you are in Cape Town. It's a 2-hour tour and costs R200.

It's a story about how the first human heart transplant took place. Showing through video clip, walking through rooms which tell about the donor, the team of doctors, the recipient and silicon reprica of the operation.

The curator had done such a great job that you hardly noticed time had gone past. She is concise, knowledgeable and humorous. I am not a museum goer, neither am I a medical professional, I find the tour very interesting, educational and inspiring.

Honestly this should be rated amongst the top attractions of Cape Town!

Cape Town is the place where the first successful heart transplantation happened. Very cool place to visit if you're into health sciences or just curious...
