We ate at the Opal Lounge a few years ago and it was fantastic - from the pre-dinner drinks (no where has come close to the fizzy lemon appetiser) to the atmos - old colonial style house and introducing us to Diemersfontein Pinotage. Blakes' has amazing decor too - I was seated in a large velvet love chair and the table was very comfortable. The food was decent - the waiting staff very attentive. Chocolate brownie and stout ice cream were amazing. I didn't like the grasshopper so much and was a little disappointed. For a while, we were the only table in (until joined by 2 others). That made the place lack atmosphere a little which is a shame because it is really quite nice. However it was a windy Sunday night in Capetown. We woukd go back and the experience would be excellent if someone could remember how to make that citrus cocktail ... Would be fab for a Special occasion

Some of the group used to go to Opal Lounge so expected something nice.
What a bad experience.
Steak tartare was a spoonful of spicy ketchup with chopped meat. Maincourses were OK but no more than that.
Strange waiter. Hanging over someones plate to reach for another, several times. We were not even finished with dessert when the bill was presented.
Extensive winelist though.
Worst experience until now in Capetown.

Our dining experience was rather mixed.
The Restaurant is lovely decorated that makes you feel cosy. Beside us there was only one other table with around 15 people occupied.
food selection is a bit limited. We ordered the Tatar which was okay but had a bit too much Ketchup/tomato. The main course was Duck which was a decent dish but nothing special, so was the line fish my wife had.
As the wine we choose was out the friendly waiter recommended another bottle in the same style which was a very fine choice. The embarassing thing happened when to other waiter poured the wine from the other table into my half full glass, which must not happen when you only have two tables occupied. That they did not charge us the bottle in the end was a nice gesture.
After all a bit of a mixed experience. nice atmosphere - rather mediocre food.

Great little space to go on a late night last stop where you can relax with other grown up company. Funky & comfy sofas and ottomans - outdoor balcon space where one can smoke and observe Mother Table Mountain in the background.

Beautifully attractive barmen at a gentleman's desk instead of a big-barrier-bar...this is very nice - even though you paying, you feel like you at a private party ;)

Great place to invite friends for a birthday drink or just to go and have a lil dance!

We always went to the opal lounche, so we were expecting something similar, and maybe to much. unfortunately it was not the same quality of food as the opal lounge (although the bill was the same.) The food was absolutely good, but not surpricing good. The opal lounge was almost blinking to a michelin star, don't expect that from Blakes., still we had a great evening, the staff was very kind, the ambiance is cosy. But i have to say: for the money/price there are better places in capetown
