My husband, son and I just returned from a trip to South Africa--including 5 nights at the Queen Victoria. The hotel was truly wonderful. We had two rooms--both lovely. Beautiful furnishings, large and luxurious bathrooms, very comfortable beds.

The hotel is located on a small hill a few hundred yards away from the V and A Waterfront. It is part of a small complex that includes the hotel's small (but very functional) gym, a related hotel, the Dock House, and a lovely pool area. The whole area is very quiet and serene. The pool, located on a large grassy lawn, was a popular place to rest after a long day of touring.

The V and A Waterfront is fairly "insane". Over the holidays it was packed with tourists--and there is a lot of loud amplified music. We loved walking around the Waterfront, but were so happy we had chosen the Queen Victoria -- a few hundred feet from the action, yet quiet and peaceful.

Breakfast was included in the room rate. The breakfasts at the hotel were terrific--either the lovely buffet with cereals, yogurts, fruits and pastries, or a hot menu in the hotel's beautiful restaurant. We ate at the Queen Victoria a few days, and also walked down the the Victoria and Alfred (another related hotel) a few times for a larger spread--you can eat at either restaurant.

The staff was also exceptional. Everyone was friendly and helpful. The front desk staff was particularly outstanding. They greeted us after our days of touring , helped us with dinner reservations (always with perfect recommendations), and generally chatted with us about Cape Town. The manager even came to our room to help us with a tricky shower (well, we found it tricky…)

On our last evening we had an emergency --my son required medical attention. We went to the front desk, described the situation and before I could get the words out "can you find us a doctor", the staff was on the phone with the hotel physician. And the doctor was at our door within 30 minutes. The following morning the front desk followed up with us to make certain everything was okay. Truly exceptional service!

This hotel is THE PERFECT place to stay in Cape Town.

After our lunch on Christmas Eve at the Dash restaurant, we strongly recommend dining there. Care and attention from staff - most notably Maitre d’ Amy D - was v.helpful and enjoyable, the food and wine were excellent (further details on that superb Neil Ellis sauvignon requested, please). Although non-resident, we were shown one of the rooms whose luxury, elegance and rate tempted us to transfer. Although just across from the V&A Waterfront centre, the hotel is quiet, relaxed and informal.

A friendly welcome and cheerful staff is one indicator of a successful hotel. The Queen Victoria has these, as well as a privileged and calm location above the frenetic V&A dock area. It's small, with muted grey interiors filled with that splendid Cape Town sunlight. Second floor rooms have a narrow balcony. The rooms are large , well soundproofed and very comfortable, as are the bathrooms. The breakfasts are well designed in the small attached restaurant and bar and though we didn't opt for any if the cooked options the cereals, yoghurts and pastries were great.
The bar is pretty cool too, though we were less impressed by the hotel restaurant 'Dash' which at least for our meal put presentation above good cooking. Despite this our stay was very relaxing and I'd thoroughly recommend it to any visitor.

We stayed at this hotel for 5 nights and had a great stay. We arrived at 1:00 in the morning as our flight was delayed five hours. We had arranged a car from the hotel to pick us up but because of the time, no one came. We did try to contact them several times to see if they would still come but we ended up having to find a taxi at the airport which wasn't easy at that time of the morning. However once we arrived at the hotel, we were so happy with the room. They had nice robes, slippers and the bed was turned down. Really great sleep, very comfortable beds and the bathroom was awesome! It was huge and the shower was wonderful. We had the breakfast there one morning which was good. We found out that we could also eat at their sister hotel on the waterfront so we did that and found it had a better breakfast. We did not go to the bar very often. We found the drinks outrageous compared to other places on the waterfront. The staff was friendly and helpful but not really warm and fuzzy. Although it was nice to be greeted at the door whenever you came back to the hotel. The location was excellent, close to all the shops and restaurants at the V&A waterfront. I thought this hotel was really beautiful and I was very comfortable. I would definately stay here again.
Capetown was one of my favorite places. It just has a good feel and people are so friendly. Truly a beautiful city!
