Owner description: Uthando (Love) South Africa is an internationally award winning and unique Non Profit Organisation and Fair Trade certified company. Uthando raises funds and other forms of assistance for a broad range of inspiring and innovative community development projects in South Africa. Uthando runs tours as daily scheduled tours AND tailormade private tours (for groups of any size). We take visitors into the townships (impoverished areas created during Apartheid on the outskirts of Cape Town) to visit incredible community development projects. We shine a light on the remarkable people and projects that are helping to build the new South Africa at grass roots level. On our tours we tell the remarkable story and history of South Africa and its brutal past, we discuss pertinent issues confronting our people, and provide an inspiring sense of hope through the efforts of dedicated grass roots leaders. Our tours are authentic, meaningful, non-invasive, respectful and very importantly beneficial to the communities being visited. The cost of our tours incorporate contributions to the projects that we visit and can thus also be considered philanthropic in nature. UTHANDO IS FAR MORE THAN JUST A NON PROFIT COMPANY, IT IS A LABOUR OF LOVE DEDICATED TO HELPING CREATE A MORE JUST AND EQUITABLE BRAVE NEW WORLD !

Very amazing experience here. Uthando collaborates with close to fifty projects that are changing life in the townships. It was truly inspiring to see all the projects that empowered the community. The tours offer a peak into the humanitarian side of Cape Town and delves into the history and pulse of South Africa. If ever in Cape Town, book a trip with them. Life changing and very very inspiring.

Was an extremely interesting experience seeing the conditions and attitudes of the people in the townships, and the work that Uthando is trying to do to assist. Xolani was incredibly informative and ensured that we were safe at all times. We ended up seeing the arts and crafts centre for women, the self-sufficient garden, and the dancing school aimed at boys to get them off the streets and into crime. It really was an interesting morning, and we ended up being the only ones on the tour so we got to ask Xolani what ever we wanted.

It is always a wonderful pleasure to take clients on tour but the most important feeling is the feeling they have when visiting, listening to the stories of hope in the communities. Thank you for choosing the Uthando experience.

We loved our experience with Uthando. Xolani and James are so passionate about and committed to their work. They have vetted their partner programs to ensure their clients are supporting programs that are in fact affecting positive change in the township communities. They move from a place of love and respect and it is exhilarating to be part of.

The day I spent with James visiting different projects in the townships of capetown was a highlight of my trip. All the projects from daycare to the organic garden were so inspirational. And the visit to the center for the elderly where we were treated to wonderful singing was so beautiful! James also shared with us his vast knowledge of the history of South Africa. This experience is not to be missed!

I was able to go with James on several tours with my family. All tours were were an enriching experience. On one of the tours we visited the Hout Bay Music Project; a music school for the children of the nearby township. On another tour, we were able to visit Abalimi Bezekhaya where women from the township grow vegetables. On the same tour, we were able to see a performance from the Thokozani Brothers where both the boys and girls sang beautiful songs.
Fantastic experience and great to share with the family.
