Owner description: Vamos is deeply embedded in the Langa Township through its ownership (Siviwe), tour guides (Siviwe, Nathi, Gladstone, Abosh), and community involvement (Happy Feet Youth Project). Touring with Vamos is like being a guest in our neighbourhood! We live here, this is our home and you are our special guest. Our experiences too, are different. We take smaller groups on interactive walking or cycling tours around Langa. We visit friends in their homes and shacks, we hear their stories, we show you their businesses, we share traditional Xhosa beer, we smell sidewalk barbecues, (taste if you'd like), visit shebeens and spaza stores. We want to share with you, a slice of life in the townships. On weekday mornings, your tour will include a meal, usually a barbecue at the well-known Mzoli's in Guguletu. Our afternoon tours include a visit to the Happy Feet Youth Project. On Sundays, we include a visit to a Gospel Church. The unexpected thing about a tour with Vamos, is that most guests come away feeling positive and inspired. Our tours are not about poverty .... yes you will see signs of poverty, but rather our tours are about people and how they are lifting themselves out of their poverty. Positive, resilient, hopeful people who are friendly, welcoming and proud of their culture and history.

WE had a real interesting bike tour through the Langa township, Tandu showed us every corner of it, the better areas and the shags...We felt every time save and saw shags from inside and the inofficial markets and the sheep head cooking....real strange!

When in Capetown in April 2012 we took at walking tour of Langer Township with Siviwe, an enthusiastic and delightful young man. He took us to a skills training workshop, a sheebeen, hostel accomadation, shanty accomodations and introduced us to his fellow residents of Langer. And whilst walking and driving us back to our hotel told us of his experiences of coming to Langer from his village as a 10 year old as well as enlightening us with much information on pre and post
Apartheid South Africa.
He invited us to a performance of Gumboot dancing with Happy Feet the next day. What an exciting and energising experience that was.
It was such a joy to meet a young man so committed to representing his township and it's history!!

We were initially unsure about taking a township tour as we didn't want to seem like Aussie sticky beaks peering into peoples lives BUT after discussing with our accommodaiton provider we were referred to Sivewe at Vamos Tours and were thrilled to be supporting a very special young man and his township in this growing industry!
We did a walking tour through Langa followed by some drive throughs of other townships and lunch at the famous Mazoli!
We were very lucky to have Sivewe to ourselves on the day we chose (given it was low tourist season) and we were so impressed by this gentle, eloquent, clever and driven young man!
It is hard to explain just how rewarded we were by this tour - it is beyond what you see, or what you do during your time with Sivewe, which was all facinating (so foreign) and educational - but more about the feeling of hope and positivity which we were left with. After two weeks of being shocked and confused by the living conditions we were seeing from "outside" the townships, we left Cape Town with a greater cultural understanding than could have been possible without this experience. Good luck with building your business Sivewe - we will certainly be recommending your experience to our family and friends.

This tour was one of the best things we did during our 3 week stay in South Africa! It is a real eye-opener about how the former oppressed people in South Africa feel and act.
Seeing how the people live in the township and pushing to get a better life by working hard and investing into their children was very impressive.

We had really open discussion with our tour guide about politics, South African history but as well as sports. The small group with only two of us and the guide was perfect. We were able to directly feel his enthusiasm about the opportunities his community has after the apartheid.

However it has always been fun and we were able to see so many differrent place and meet with great people!

We will always remember that day - our guide made us believe that South African people are very proud of their country and will have a great future!

I can't say enough about this township tour. This was my first visit to Cape Town, and South Africa overall, and aside from playing with baby lion cubs (who wouldn't love that!), doing this tour was our most memorable and wonderful experience. Sivewe took us on a private cycling tour throughout Langa (lucky for us the rainy weather scared off the other patrons) and he shared a wealth of information with us about the township, the people, the history and the culture of the township. Probably the most memorable moment was when we were cycling by a local club (which was so small it could only really fit 10 people at best) and I insisted that we go in and I danced with some of the locals (not part of the official tour by any means). The locals thought the sight of this 34 year old white tourist dancing to their music was just hilarious (in a good way i hope) and we all had a great time. The performances of the happy feet children was also a highlight! They were all so friendly and passionate about their dancing it was inspiring. As for safety, I never ever felt like I was in danger and our car remained safe and sound outside the visitors centre for the entire duration of the tour. If you do this tour, I would definitely recommend you do the cycling tour. You can cover so much more ground than a walking tour and it was wonderful to be out in the open air interacting with the locals, seeing and hearing the vibe of the township. At one point we passed by another tour company whose tour consisted of a driver with the tourists sitting in the backseat of a car. They saw us on our bikes and you could see the instant jealousy in their eyes. If you are contemplating doing this tour and my advice to you is JUST DO IT! You won't be disappointed. Also I'd like to say that this is the first and only trip advisor review I have ever written. I don't usually tend to make the time to write reviews, but this is the first time in my life where I have felt so strongly about an experience, I had to share it.
