Owner description: Vamos is deeply embedded in the Langa Township through its ownership (Siviwe), tour guides (Siviwe, Nathi, Gladstone, Abosh), and community involvement (Happy Feet Youth Project). Touring with Vamos is like being a guest in our neighbourhood! We live here, this is our home and you are our special guest. Our experiences too, are different. We take smaller groups on interactive walking or cycling tours around Langa. We visit friends in their homes and shacks, we hear their stories, we show you their businesses, we share traditional Xhosa beer, we smell sidewalk barbecues, (taste if you'd like), visit shebeens and spaza stores. We want to share with you, a slice of life in the townships. On weekday mornings, your tour will include a meal, usually a barbecue at the well-known Mzoli's in Guguletu. Our afternoon tours include a visit to the Happy Feet Youth Project. On Sundays, we include a visit to a Gospel Church. The unexpected thing about a tour with Vamos, is that most guests come away feeling positive and inspired. Our tours are not about poverty .... yes you will see signs of poverty, but rather our tours are about people and how they are lifting themselves out of their poverty. Positive, resilient, hopeful people who are friendly, welcoming and proud of their culture and history.

Thando, our guide gave us a great tour which we took by bike. This is a great way to see the township Langa since by bike you can cover a large part of Langa. Thando made us understand how the township functions and learned us that it is not only the challenging housing you see along the highway but that there is also a middle class and a higher class population. We really got an insight in living here and the way safety is being assured amongst eachother. We highly recommend this tour with Vamos and advise you to take the bike.

We visited the Langa township on an afternoon tour which included a trip to meet the kids and watch them perform at the Happy Feet Project. Our guide Gladstone was great, very informative and accommodating of our needs. We got to meet the local people, stopping to speak to them on the street in their homes and even in their pub where we got to taste their home brewed beer. The children we met around the township were lovely and we got to play a game of hopscotch with them which was great fun. Our last stop at the Happy Feet Project was one of the trip highlights, learning about the great work the organisation does and of course watching the fantastic performance from the kids. Would definitely recommend this tour!

It was one of the most interesting experiences in South Africa so far. You are supposed to go there to know the reality of the country. We chose the cycling tour which brings you to most places in Langa. You will get in touch with residents and get the chance to learn about their circumstances and their stories. Thando - our great guide - even took us to his own house. As he is from Langa he really knows the area and the people. One might argue that going on a township tour is sort of voyeuristic. But the company's approach to show foreigners all aspects of the area and the fact that you can talk to the people helps to make a better understanding of this nation.

Tour was absolutely incredible. A truly once in a lifetime experience, the tour encompassed all areas of township life, from the poorest of the poor to the wealthier areas of the township. The tour guide was exceptional at providing information on township way-of-life, which helped an outsider, like myself, understand certain social dynamics that existed within the community. Everything from the beer-tasting to the spaza shops were educational and informative, and it was an experience that I will never forget. Thank you so much to Vamos for such a wonderful experience.

My friends and i went on a cycling tour with Thando and agreed that it was one of our best experiences in the city. Thando was extremely accommodating and friendly and also offered us a glimpse into the rich community of the Langa township. The cycling tour also allowed us to cover most of the township in 2.5 hours and our only regrets were that we could not interact more with the people there. A must-do!
