“Fabulous wine list and great atmosphere”

A great Friday evening venue. Delicious wine by the glass, interesting tapas, very busy and buzzing. Seems to attract the creatives who work in the area. Very difficult to leave

“All time Favorite”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 December 2012

At last Cape Town has a reliably great Winebar. Since the demise of Quaffers in the early waterfront days there has not been an upmarket wine bar of the likes. Enter "French Toast"!
Beautifully decorated in an elegantly eclectic European style in a delightful old warehouse on fashionable Bree Street, it has stood the two year Capetonian test (evidently 90% of new restaurants don't make it past one year in this fickle restaurant-ridden city!) and is consistently good.
The owner (a Cape Wine Master student) has a hand on the pulse constantly, and this is evident in the attention to detail by all the staff.
They regularly have special tastings of interesting wines where one can interact with the winemakers, and have a Monday night half-price evening.
Excellent wines, Great food and convivial atmosphere make this a weekly treat for us.

“Unexpected Brilliance”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 November 2012

Wow - this was a truly enjoyable experience! The restaurant is set up in a really open and and funky eclectic style which could not be pinned down as Spanish, but it works.
The menu is really well priced, and the portions are such that you can sample a wide range of different tastes - obviously the idea of Tapas - but including some non traditional items which make for a great meal.
Friendly and attentive staff, great straightforward food - loads of fun!

“Friendly atmosphere”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 November 2012

Although we arrived late on a Friday evening, the waitress was very polite and made an effort, with her manager, to serve us what we required.
A charming spot for a dring and snack after a show.

“great place for light dining with very good wines”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 November 2012

This restaurant has a lot going for it: modern, trendy decor, excellent wines by the glass, very knowledgeable servers, very interesting variety of unusual tapas to enjoy.

The only downside was that it was noisy when we were there, as there was a large and very happy group at the other end of the room. We left sooner than we would have liked.
