“Excellent meal in the gardens”
Reviewed 4 May 2014

We had a wonderful walk in the beautiful Kirstenbosch gardens and stayed longer than planned finding ourselves there at lunchtime. We were reluctant to eat in the tea room in spite of the idyllic setting thinking it would be the usual typical touristy tearoom meal as we have had at so many other places. What a pleasant surprise! Excellent fresh food -great salad and delicious hake.We finished with their home-baked scones which were outstanding...All in all an excellent ending to a visit in these unforgettable gardens.

“Take the "not so hungry"!”
Reviewed 28 April 2014

This is one of those places which keeps drawing you back, no matter what the shortcomings are - and these are few indeed. Perhaps to get these out of the way first, unless you are a member of the Botanical Society, a visit just for a meal or cup of tea carries a hefty premium in the form of the fee for admission to the Gardens. The second is that the menu is priced to support very large portions, hence my advice in the title. Finally, the seating is not known for its comfort.

To move on, the Tea Room has the most idyllic setting in the Gardens, and against the lower slopes of Table Mountain. Sitting "hard" outdoors amongst healthy patrons of all ages, some definitely mountaineering types, sets the whole experience off on the right foot. Informality and relaxation abound. Service is in keeping, and quietly efficient, and, we are told, part of the outdoor area is to be covered, to maintain seating space during the less inviting winter weather.

The food is wholesome, well prepared, well presented and tasty, and the hot food arrives hot. Salads are freshly prepared from fresh ingredients. Elsewhere someone has commented on the coffee, and sadly share their view - if brewed, it needs to be replaced more frequently. By contrast, my wife's cappuccino was very good.

In conclusion, your visit to Kirstenbosch will be nicely rounded off by a visit to its Tea Room.

“Consistently Great for Lunches”
Reviewed 9 April 2014

I love visiting this restaurant as their food is so fresh and interesting and their portions generous.
Their salads are a meal in themselves and in winter their soups are the best soul food you can imagine. Service is also efficient and very friendly and the fact that many of the staff have been there for a long time, is another testimony to a great restaurant.

“The perfect coffee spot”
Reviewed 27 March 2014

I love this little tea room on the edge of Kirstenbosch. It's the perfect place for breakfast, brunch or lunch with a menu packed with choices for all of them. The anchovy toast is my favourite, homemade anchovy butter to spread generously on warm toast. And you can go for a walk afterwards in the stunning gardens.
