Very nice atmosphere. Clean rooms, clean kitchen with enough space for everyone. The dorm rooms were a bit small, but doable.
The owners are very helpful with planning for your tours and the rest of your journey. They have a big cozy bed, where you can read or watch movies!

I stayed at the BIG this past August for a few days. Even before I stepped foot on the BEAUTIFUL property, Amy was so helpful via email. I chose the BIG because it seemed quite chill...I wasn't looking for a crazy Long Street location. The BIG was absolutely beautiful. It was meticulously spotless, with a welcoming kitchen/dining area, a library, a super comfy TV room, and the bedrooms were great. I stayed in the black and white dorm. The bathrooms are clean and the beds were very comfortable. But what I loved most about my stay in Cape Town was the people I met, and those include the absolutely charming staff of the BIG. Amy, Emilienne, Jess, and Linda never hesitated to help find you something to do, call you a cab, or simply sit with you to chat. They were absolutely amazing and made my stay perfect.
Also, for the price, the value was incredible! The breakfasts were so tasty!

The BIG is a extremely friendly hostel, with amazing staff who take time to get to know you and help with planning your trips. The hostel itself is very clean, the rooms are a comfortable size with big lockers, lots of power sockets and very comfy beds. Breakfast in the morning has a good selection of foods. It is really easy to meet other guests here as there is lots of common area space. Greenpoint is really safe, short walk to the waterfront and a cheap taxi ride to Long street. This hostel is top quality with the greatest staff!!

I highly recommend staying at the BIG. It's the nicest hostel- very clean, well run, homey, perfect size, and really friendly and helpful staff. The staff make an effort to learn your name and follow up about your day- they can help you book activities and make suggestions on what to do. The kitchen is great and has everything you need to cook, breakfast is amazing. And the kitchen is set up in a way so you can meet other travelers. The rooms are really clean and a lot of thought was put into them- not too crowded, there are lights by each bed, shelves, outlets, lockers, towels and extra blankets in winter. Greenpoint is a convenient location to get to the waterfront and a bit removed from the longstreet and downtown vibe. It was so nice that I was sad to leave!

Room Tip: some dorms have bathrooms in them

Just stayed at The B.I.G in Greenpoint, Cape Town. It was a clean, inviting, funky and friendly place. The staff were fantastic (you felt as though they were family). They were all very helpful and acted like tour guides. It was a great place to meet other backpackers, and interestingly although most of the guests were in 20's and 30's, there were older people e.g. mothers and daughters. This is a boutique backpackers with a difference, in that all the rooms have their own bathrooms. The staff goes out of their way to suggest places to visit and good tours. They make you feel very welcjanicome, and there is a lovely vibe.
I would definitely recommend this hostel as a "home away from home"
