I really loved this club when it first opened up about a year or so ago - it was the kind of place that you heard of through the grapevine, and you couldn't find it on the web - it was very exclusive and distinctly Capetonian. You walked into a sexy, New York-style bar where there were only beautiful people, with enough space to have a dance and order a drink. The bar area opens up to a larger, longer room with booth-like seating on either side and where a suspended brass bird cage housed the DJ, who would play old Motown hits mixed in with an electro beat...
Fast forward to this year - the front door is manned by a costumed lady and a bouncer (who used to screen who gets to enter; an integral part of an exclusive club), only now they're screening for who to charge R100 entrance and who to let in for free. We had no problem paying but I was disappointed to see around 15 High School kids let in for free as the door lady giggled with her friend outside.
Secondly, their seating policy is ridiculous at best. One has to order a bottle of Dom Perignon to be allowed to sit in the booth seats, and while I don't mind seeing sparkling bottles of bubbly delivered to a bevy of seated, long-legged models, I find it difficult to understand what the point of continuing this rule is if your club is half empty at 2am. Sometimes, you have to be courteous to the people who don't feel like drinking Dom and would perhaps like to have a seat for a minute. They are also incredibly rude about it.
Lastly, the music used to be great here - a real mix of old school with new beats. Now all they play is radio hits.
One more thing: whoever they have writing their web-based marketing (their FB and twitter persona) really needs to learn proper grammar.
