“Not bad for the money, but not a dream accommodation”

We got the Best Western as part of a Delta package, and at $100 a night it is decent value. The positives include a spacious room, a really terrific buffet breakfast, conscientious maid service, and a pool within 50 feet alongside a wood-oven pizza kitchen (very reasonable and good). The drawbacks include a ten minute walk into downtown, a clunky wifi voucher system, minimal acoustical insulation, and (during our week-long stay) a pile driver on the adjacent property that went until 8:00 at night. For a shorter stay at a more expensive room rate, the Cape Heritage Hotel has all these positives and none of the negatives.

At breakfast the chef will do a nice omelete to order. One can buy the daily Cape Times at the desk. The wall-mounted clock in the suite is noisy.

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms adjacent to the restaurant or that face the highway. Rooms near the back, facing Tab...

We were very happy with our stay here in December. The family room we had was really a converted apartment, 2-bedroomed. GORGEOUS view of the bay. I'd be careful walking around here at night, but totally fine during the day. GREAT breakfast!

Room Tip: Family room, all the way.

We were guests of Best Western Cape Suites for a full week in Jan/Feb 2013 as part of a Delta Vacations package. Our experiences were mixed consistent with previous reviews.

First the good. As others report, the breakfast buffet is very nice with lots of local fresh fruit, hot meats, and cooked-to-order eggs; all served on real dishes and glassware. Much better than a typical American 3* hotel breakfast. And the guest rooms are spacious with convenient "self catering" amenities. The free airport shuttle saves guests money -- and the stress of driving (on the wrong side of the road, in my case) after long fights. Driver Safwat was especially friendly and went the extra mile to accommodate our needs. He drove me back to the airport to pickup a car, but then waited close by in case it was unavailable.

However, Safwat and the breakfast staff were the only staff with whom we had good experiences. Others on the BW staff were disinterested in their guests and very inhospitable -- very unlike our normal experience in South Africa where people are so friendly and helpful. Management seemed to be in hiding; or in buck-passing. Front-desk staff did not want to be bothered; or were unable to deal with problems. Worst of all was Princess who gave false information when bothered.

Guest rooms, though large, are not comfortably furnished. The quality of furnishings was about 1.5* and well worn. Hard floors result in tired feet and lots of sound penetration. We slept poorly our first three nights due to the "frat boy" suite below us. The party went half the night and could not be controlled by the hotel.

The location of the hotel allows convenient access to Cape Town area sites, if a car is available. But the neighborhood is not a place to be walking at night. Fortunately, we found the onsite pub to have good food and beverages at very reasonable prices.

Lovely studio suite - very spacious and sunny. Bed sleeps like a dream with crisp white linnen. Great hot water - can soak away the beach sand and salt! Nothing too much trouble for staff. Very accomodating and friendly. Will definately return.

Room Tip: Book a room on the school side of the hotel. Nice and quiet at night.

We stayed here over Christmas with friends from Dubai. The buidings etc are lovely but there appeared no attention to maintainance.
When we arrived the aircon was not working. Fixed the following day but ran at minimum 24d for our two bedroomed unit.
One toilet seat had only one bolt holding it in place.
Then the shower pressure failed, followed by the front door handle coming off.
It really is a nice place but needs some TLC.
Staff are very helpful other than front desk females who are brusk.

My family and I checked in at night and we were given a room that backed up to the street. No chance of sleeping as we heard every car that drove by and the door to the patio didn't even lock. Some drunks in a nearby room had a heated scuffle around midnight at the pool right outside my door, and calling the front desk was useless - they could care less. An hour later there was more loud arguing and a crashing noise that sounded like a door being kicked in. Again the front desk couldn't be bothered. Unable to get another hotel on Christmas Day we accepted the offer of a new room but declined the free dinner. The only positive note was the free breakfast, which wasn't bad. The Internet was free but only worked near the office and the A/C units are quite noisy. They advertise guest laundry, but the machines are old and broken down. They have two dryers, but one has no drum inside.
I could go on, but suffice it to say the property is poorly run and not in very good condition. New management and renovations may make it a good property, but that has yet to be seen. I would avoid this place.
