If you can afford it, it is well worth the money. Everything was of the highest caliber. It is in an ideal location near the marina, with excellent restaurants and in walking distance to the ferry that goes out to Robben Island, to see where Mandela was kept a prisoner for 18 years. We took in Phantom of the Opera at the city's Artscape and the hotel brought us in their limo and picked us up in the end, with no charge! We loved it

Staying at The Cape Grace hotel was a truly wonderful experience. The service was superb from the moment we walked into the hotel until our last day. Every request we had for information, reservations and use of the courtesy chauffeur service were dealt with enthusiastically and with true 'grace'. Breakfasts were memorable (possibly the best eggs benedict I've ever had!) with smiling service throughout. This hotel is worth every penny: 5 stars throughout!!

The Cape Grace is the height of luxury in Capetown located on the waterfront. Overall, it's a beautiful, gorgeous, and amazing. However, some issues reduced our enjoyment of the hotel.

Before ARRIVAL: The staff was amazing. Their communication over email was helpful, including multiple communications over live chat. After several emails to get the right group name, they arranged transport for us from our other hotel.

The ROOMS and AMENITIES : Our room was huge! Wonderful! With a balcony! I really enjoyed it. Extra awesome amenities were the Ipod dock, several different converters, turn-down service, and yummy chocolates each night.

The MONEY: Yes, this hotel is EXPENSIVE, even if you are rich. Everything costs more money than other hotels or even out by the waterfront: food, laundry, water, drinks......

The FOOD: Small amounts of food for lots of money. Go out to the Quay 4 area or anywhere on the waterfront (only a 5-10 min. walk or so) instead.

The SERVICE: The service was fantastic, as expected. This is the hotel for Dutch/European hospitality, which comes with grace, style, and beauty. Strangely, we evidently accidentally left our safe open one day. Housekeeping alerted security who then locked the safe with a different code, which we were told was with security. Security didn't have it, so we had to go to the help desk. When that code didn't work, we had to have the whole thing reset. The whole thing was a little awkward.

The ONLY negatives: The Grace was not able to deliver messages. The said they would, but they didn't. Several times, they delivered messages from another group that were not really for us. The messages that we sent to each other were never delivered. The messages that our group leaders left for us were delivered several DAYS later. I was shocked that this happened time and time again to multiple people in our group. Also, this is not a laid back, "real" South African hotel. This is a ritzy, top of the line hotel for the wealthy. So just be aware what this hotel is in comparison to what you are looking for.

CONCLUSION:
A great hotel that I would recommend. However, I think there are other hotels that are a much lower price and very nice, too, so feel free to look around.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony (facing the waterfront) that includes the french doors that open. But at night, you will hear just a little bit of noise in this room.

In my four decades of traveling I've stayed in a variety of accomodation, ranging from primitive tents to luxury resorts. Never have I stayed in a better place than the Cape Grace.

We arrived in Cape Town after a long flight, New York to Johannesburg, then on to Cape Town. We were extremely jet lagged. We were shuttled mid-afternoon to the Cape Grace. It felt like coming home. The staff were unusually friendly, warm and helpful. Every single employee knew us by name -- it was quite remarkable really. The place is designed with a simple elegance. There are more opulent places around but everything was beautiful and highly functional. Never have I been in a room more thoughtfully designed to enhance guest comfort than the Cape Grace's. It was a spacious room but beyond that everything seemed to be in the right place. The best touch of all was a small balcony door that offered us a great view of the harbor and to the left, Table Mountain. A uniquely Cape Town view.

Besides this the hotel offers many wonderful small touches to enhance your stay, like a library, free port or sherry at night served in the library, free shoeshine, free local limo, etc. etc. etc. Everyone was simply wonderful! I have not been cared for this well since I was a child and my mother took care of me.

Our room was a bread and breakfast rate, and breakfast was of the finest quality and variety. Everything was delicious and perfect. It was what I expected of the Cape Grace by then. I wish we'd had dinner here instead of the V&A waterfront. The hotel is not cheap but we felt it was worth every penny we'd paid.

Thank you Cape Grace for a wonderful and memorable visit. If our travels bring us back to Cape Town, and hopefully they do, we'll be sure to come back again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the back (better harbor view and Table Mountain view).

Stayed at Cape Grace in April 2007 for a couple of days for business, and this hotel is probably one of the best hotels I've stayed in.

It is extremely comfortable. They had an internet room which was very useful. And the Waterfront was just a walking distance away.

The rooms are very elegant, and mine came with my own balcony. The room was spacious and the bedding luxurious. The service is excellent too!
