Allow yourself to be seduced by the breathtaking beauty of Cape Town. The Mother City has so much to offer and what better way than to stay in one of the hotels at the V&A Waterfront.
We occupied three rooms (two of the rooms were inter-leading) in the Cape Grace Hotel and found the hotel to be just perfect. We stayed on the ground floor and had a fantastic view over the yachts and Table Mountain.
The Cape Grace offers a combination of modern luxury and local culture. The rooms were stylish, spacious and truly five-star.
Even though we rented a car at Cape Town International Airport (we were six people), we parked the car at the hotel and were able to walk everywhere.
When traveling in South Africa, one needs to put “safety” above anything else. We felt safe and walked to the V&A Waterfront… a must for “retail therapy”… We went to the movies, the shops, the ferris wheel and we also walked to the Two Oceans Aquarium where we had a really nice meal. The City Site seeing busses are also within walking distance from the hotel and there is no need to be a bit “snobbish” about taking it (like we may have been) as they are perfectly great!
The Concierge Services will also assist with transportation to Table Mountain… please note that you can book your tickets online (valid for almost a week) and have it printed at the hotel, as well. Before planning a visit to Table Mountain, you need to ask the Concierge to make sure (or look it up on the internet) that Table Mountain is open, as they close it regularly due to the strong winds. Eventually we went during the late afternoon and found the sun set and restaurant on the mountain to be wonderful. Do NOT drive to Table Mountain by yourself. There is no parking and you will have to walk very far – rather have the Hotel drop you off or take the tourist bus. If you’d like to take the foot path up Table Mountain, rather do it with a guide as it may not be safe to do it by yourself or in a small group… especially if you are a tourist. We also visited “Die Kasteel” (Castle) which is great and were not impressed with the tours to Robin Island… rather walk on the beach and feel the sand underneath your toes.
The staff at the Cape Grace Hotel is specially trained in the finest manners. They are friendly, they are kind and they reminded me of the lovely people at The Ritz.
The meals in the restaurant was lovely and the breakfast not outstanding, but still great enough.
The SPA is a must. I had my hair done and we also enjoyed massages for most of the family members. They are pricy, but worth the money.
Room service ~ super fantastic and they try to meet all your needs. The staff also handed out small gifts to the guests and the atmosphere and decorations during the Christmas Holidays were just wonderful.
We cannot wait to return to The Cape Grace Hotel.
