We stayed here first a 2night and then 4night.For the first we were upgraded to one of their suites, really luxurious and then in the main hotel later, this was really nice with a balcony.
At all times the rooms were beautifully clean, spacious and comfortable, couldn't be better.
Food was excellent ,really magnificent breakfasts which would suite all requirements. We also had dinner and high tea,for a top hotel we did not think the prices were exorbitant.
At all times the staff were excellent and made several phone calls for me as our travel co. had failed to send the full itinerary of our tour to the hotel, even prepared to phone the UK if required.
Beautiful gardens,Also easy to walk into the city from the hotel through Government Gardens opposite the main entrance. The hotel provides 2 courtesy cars ,on a first come basis which will take and collect you to several places including Table Mnt.cable car and the Waterfront.
The staff also told us of restaurants which were walkable, even at night.Excellent steak one and a good seafood one.
Can't talk too highly of our experience at this hotel

Room Tip: Not aware that any rooms would be noisy

We spent 10 days there and loved it! The service was incredible, everyone knew us and said hello, the food was great, our room was beautiful. The hotel combines old and new-all of the common areas are gracious, large and light, and our room was completely updated, beautiful large bathroom, excellent wi-fi. Above all the service was fantastic!

I have traveled and stayed in many fine hotels around the world, and would have to say mount nelson was the best. If you are looking for a trendy, modern hotel this is not the place for you. If you are looking for a unique colonial-era charm, stay here. The service was impeccable, refined and understated, and while many people have written that the hotel is dated, it may be to an unrefined eye (not too sound too snobby). The rooms and garden were massive, especially as you sat in them for some time and realized quite how spacious and well-laid out they were. While we stayed, there were some A-list celebrities lodging at the hotel (we saw a couple at breakfast) and yet the hotel staff treated us with utmost respect and importance as if we were important too. The hotel offers the cutest complimentary treats that we used..hot water bottles upon request (which were amazing in the cold night), dvds. breakfast was the best I have ever had..cannot recommend the flapjacks more! will stay there every time we go. our only complaint was that tea bags should have been refilled everyday (we noticed they were not).

Room Tip: read the hotel facilities list, it offers the tips on hot bottles, etc. all rooms were beautiful (w...

Happy to hear that you enjoyed your visit at the Mount Nelson Hotel. Sorry to hear that the tea bags were not replenished in your room on a daily basis. Obviously this should not have happened and will monitor this closely with our food and beverage manager and our in-room dining staff.
Looking forward to welcoming you back on a future visit to Cape Town.

If you like old world charm, this is the place to be. However, it was not the accomodation that I would rave about, but the charm, of afternoon tea. WOW. I still remember, the lay out, the array of deserts and savouries that you can experience. Afternoon tea is a experience at this place. The service utterly outstading. WORLD CLASS The piano, the relaxing atmosphere. The accomodation is equally good, the decor very old fashioned with a charm of a bigon era. Really highly recommended, if you want to relax, and stay away from the hustle bustle. Lovely gardens also

this is a world away from the hustle and bustle of Capetown! Contained within its own compound as such within the city, although away from the waterfront area this property rivals the "new world"
And challenges it from a bygone era of style and luxury, guests are made to feel special and treated not only as long lost friends but as such to be given the experience of a lifetime. The world famous Planet restaurant sits quaintly in the opulence that has witnessed many a famous guest, every detail has been seen to from removing the ivory in its antique solid silver decanters to what actually is served from the hotels own organic garden! One can see why this hotel is indeed an icon and not to be missed. A 2 night stay has enlightened me and I truly did not want to leave!

Room Tip: Ask for a view of table mountain, for families the cottages are ideal

My husband and I stayed here in August for 2 nights. The hotel from reception to room, felt a bit dated. This may have been due to the fact that we stayed in the original hotel building which is supposed to be the nicer more expensive part. Planet Bar was perfect for pre dinner drinks - clubby and intimate. Hotel is well positioned for walking into the vibey bit of Cape Town. Breakfast area was very average as was the buffet offering. Nice hotel overall but not worth the rave reviews.

Room Tip: Our room was in the original old building - very spacious and looked back towards Table Mountain whi...

Thank you for having stayed at the Mount Nelson Hotel. The Mount Nelson was built in 1899 and for a 115 years old lady, she is trying her best to stay healthy. I am sorry that you found the hotel a bit dated. The Mount Nelson Hotel has been going through numerous renovations in the past few years. 47 rooms were refurbished in the main building in 2010 and 2011, the 30 rooms of the Oasis Wing have been refurbished in 2012 and we are currently renovating 36 rooms in the Green Park section. The Green Park renovations will be complete at the end of this month.
The hotel also has lovely cottage suites that have beautiful views of Signal Hill and that are located in front of one of the hotel's pool.
Thank you for your honest opinion and we will continue upgrading our property.
Once again, many thanks for your visit.
