Arrived Cape Town at 10am, reached Mount Nelson hotel at 1030am. Bell boy was very fast and polite to collect our luggage and front desk was very pleasant. Checked us in straight away and upgraded us as I've told them this was for my husband's birthday celebration. A bottle of nice champagne was waiting for us in our nice cottage. Our cottage overlooks the pool. It was such a lovely room all we wanted is to spend our time reading and having happy hour drinks at our balcony. They've gym and a reasonable size pool. Shower tap can be improved by having a simple pull and turn left or right for hot or cold. TV in the room was way too small. We tried to watch the soccer match which we struggle with it. ;) Hotel provide free transport to Table Mountain, Riverside (where lots of shops and resto) and 1 more area which I forgot. It was very nice to have such complimentary service though is cheap and safe to grab a metered taxi too.
Breakfast spread was good though lots of flies hovering around the food. All waiter/waitress, concierge, front desk, everyone at Mount Nelson are so well-train.
I'll definitely be back again if I'm in Cape Town.

This is a beautiful hotel located fairly centrally in Cape Town. We had organized a car from the hotel to pick us up at the airport and take us to the hotel. Our driver was nice and professional. The check in process was easy and efficient.

When we got to our room, it was quite warm (this was October in Cape Town the start of Spring) and we tried to get the AC to work. It didn't seem to work. We called the front desk and reported it and asked to have it looked at. The next day we went to the front desk and again reported it. We were out all day and upon our return found our room still quite warm. We opened the windows and called the front desk. As we were staying for an entire week, we were eager to have this resolved. To make a long story short, this went on for three days and three uncomfortable nights. It was eventually fixed. We asked to have the manager call our cell but the manager never contacted us. I called the front desk the night before we were to check out to give them a chance to make this right. They sent the night manager over to our room who promised to have the manager contact us. The General Manager, Xavier Lablude, and the Guest Relations Manager, Joey Michael, met with me. They apologized and ended up not charging us for two nights of our stay. This seemed to be fair to us. I want to publicly thank both managers for their time and how they resolved this issue.

The hotel is a beautiful place and I would recommend a stay at Mount Nelson for anyone traveling to Cape Town especially if it is your first time in Cape Town.

They provide a car service to the waterfront which we used quite often and found it to be a very pleasant way to get to and from the waterfront.

I can't say enough about the driver we hired, Chris Gatyeni , to take us on a tour of Cape Town, Boulder's Beach, and Cape Point. We liked him so much that we hired him later in the week to take 2 friends and us on a wine country visit. If you go to Cape Town and stay at Mount Nelson, ask for Chris to be your driver (or, contact him directly at CHRIS@gmail.com). He won’t disappoint!

We will be back and look forward to another visit at this beautiful hotel in the heart of Cape Town.

Excellent hotel, we were made very welcome. Everyone was very friendly and couldn't do enough to make you feel welcome and relaxed. Very impressed with the service of all staff, they couldn't have been more helpful. The staff at the planet bar were excellent!

It's a beautiful hotel. Full of character, which is so rare in 5 star hotels these days.The service is great - personal and professional. The concierge desk is absolutely superb - world class. They really can do everything, and nothing is too much trouble. One note of caution - there is a very bizarre system for 'booking' beds around the pool. If you're new to the hotel it will catch you out! Regulars block book beds around the pool and then they are reserved permanently throughout your stay, irrespective of whether you want a swim or not. It's very strange. The result is that you turn up at the pool, 80% of the beds are empty, but there are none available for you. If you tip the guys running the pool area well enough they mysteriously find one available. But it's an antiquated and abused system! They should go to first-come-first-served like any other hotel pool! Aside from that, it's a lovely place.

Over December when the hotel is running at maximum occupancy, we also have a number of regular long staying clients who like to book their pool beds in advance. We agree that the system can be approved on, and we are looking at improving it in the near future.

We were only in Capetown for two days before heading to the Steenberg Hotel in Constantia. We debated between Mount Grace and Mt. Nelson and chose the latter. I was a bit apprehensive that we'd find stuffy or tired surroundings, but our rooms were remodeled and lovely. There seemed to be work going on, so perhaps that is now complete. The staff were nice, and the high tea is fun. We didn't eat at the restaurant as we had other plans.

We were delighted at the Mount Nelson hotel
It's a bit like going back in time although everything about the Mount Nelson was good.I especially looked forward to the breakfast every morning to start with I had oysters and champagne followed by a huge choice of cereals scrambled eggs, oh such much choice it was just wonderful

I was fortunate enough to have the afternoon tea at the Mount Nelson Hotel on February 27 with my mom and my sister and must say that the experience again was absolutely delightful. As requested, we had a beautiful table in the conservancy, the perfect place between inside and outside on a very hot day. Staff were fabulous, very knowledgeable about the kinds of tea being served and a pleasure to deal with. They kept our table for us while we went for a stroll in the beautiful gardens of the hotel and had a sincere smile on their faces at all times. The food - both hearty and sweet - was fantastic, what a shame you can't actually try it all. I must say we liked it being served buffet-style. That way everybody can choose whatever they really like and will eat; I, for example, prefer the hearty things, so this really worked nicely for me. I don't think it's a bad thing that the hearty food doesn't stay hot - it tastes just as good!
I hope to return to Cape Town next year, and afternoon tea at the Mount Nelson is among the top things on my must-do-list!
