The Table Bay Hotel
Ranked #17 of 112 Hotels in Cape Town Central
Reviewed 19 November 2012

Have not stayed at the Table Bay but have been going for lunch/dinner almost every year since 2005. This hotel's standards have plummeted. We went for lunch a couple of days ago and thought the food very poor - just pub food standard in a five star hotel!! My chips came out in a little basket but stone cold, and don't get me started on the state of the loos! My husband went to the loo and he came back to say that two urinals were full of - for we want of a better word - pee! The ladies was a little better but in need of some refurbishment. The sink plug in one basin was stuck. This used to be a wonderful addition to Cape Town with great, stylish food and staff in evidence but since it has been taken over by Southern Sun it has gone down hill. The best thing about it is the view.

This hotel is actually build into the V&A waterfront. If you are a tourist, and want to go out at night and have a drink and a nice meal, this is your place. There's about 10 restaurants right outside the hotel, on the waterfront, I've travelled all over the world and the food here (especially the meat), is probably the best I've ever had. The hotel itself is massive, rooms are clean and very 'posh' in my opinion. Theres a nice little bar, and the breakfast room is brilliant with perfect views of te mountain. If you are visiting Cape Town and South Africa, you don't want to waste time in the hotel anyway, it was out luck that we stayed 4 nights and only paid for one - there was a deal on conjunction with the Shamwai Game Reserve - so keep your eye out. In truth, we would not have been able to affor to stay here for 4 nights.

Me and my Boyfriend stayed at this Hotel Ocotber 2012. This Hotel is a fantastic Hotel.
Staff are fantastic rooms are beautiful we was lucky to get a room with a fantastic view of Table Mountain and the harbour. We also got married in Cape town and the Hotel could not do enough for us. Resturants are excellent and great location. Also if you stay here book a Spa treatment this was also fantastic. Can't wait to go back.

My boyfriend and I stayed in the hotel over a weekend. The hotel has direct access to the Waterfront Mall, which is very convenient. We had a lovely stay, all our meals were included - so it was great to experience the breakfast, lunch, high tea and dinner. The room was lovely and the view great - pretty standard, nothing over the top or unexpected. The service was okey - we had a car booked to collect us at the Hotel and they were so unorganized that we ended up leaving an hour later than we were supposed to - after asking the reception desk multiple times if the vehicle was waiting for us. The breakfast has a huge selection, our thoughts were that if they had fewer options the breakfast quality will be better than what they were offering. Lunch was lovely as well as high tea. Dinner was rather disappointing - we tried their signature dish (prawn cocktail), but the avocado was not ripe, the prawn was overcooked and it had an overly powerful lemon taste. We had a great experience going to the Camelot Spa that they have on site, definitely a must try. Overall the experience was rather average and I still wonder how they landed a spot on the Leading Hotels of the World List?

Room Tip: Try get a room on a higher floor - the view is great.

Luxury hotel bang on the waterfront .......place where all activity happens. Numerous restaurant ans shops in the waterfront. This hotel doesnt have the modern look from outside but when you enter the quality of the hotel can be seen . Friendly staff at the hotel , there is huge breakfast with good views. Room sizes are perfect and the housekeeping is managed well.

Some tips for improvement - shortage of pressing irons so need to buy more..the hotel key doesnt work some times its a pain to go to the ground floor and change it. Wifi gets disconnected after some time and we need to login again.

Overall a very good hotel but sometimes in season the prices go up very high so an early booking/spl deal booking is recomended.

Room Tip: waterfront facing 4th floor and above.

We had a fabulous 2 night stay. This is our third visit to this stunning hotel and we only realized this time that you can access the shopping centre from the hotel. Our room was on the 1st floor facing Table Mountain and the harbour; it had a large veranda and we watched the boats entering and leaving the harbour up close. It is a little noisy, but that didn't bother us. Not only for its stunning and convenient location, but immaculate rooms and very efficient and friendly staff, I rate this hotel No 1! I would recommend it to everyone.

Room Tip: If you want peace and quiet... choose a higher floor; less noise. Sea facing rooms could be quite ho...

I spent 8 days at this 5 star hotel on business and found this to be an excellent experience. The service staff was supurb and did anything needed to make the stay comfortable and enjoyable. The location is perfect with excellent access to the shopping mall, most restaurants and the wharf. The breakfast buffet is nothing short of spectacular - virtually anything you can think of. The concierge service, business office staff and wait staff were very competent and helpful. Others at our conference spent nearly as much at other nearby hotels (Radisson Blu) and thought they were overpriced. Not here - great value for top notch service and accomodation.

Room Tip: Beware of rooms 225, 325, ---> 825. They adjoin the service elevators and can be noisy.
