We had a wonderful stay at The Table Bay. US visitors traveling on a "South Africa in Absolute Style" tour with Lion World Travel. Both the accommodations and the staff were perfect, 1st class in every way.

This was our final 5 night stay on our tour of South Africa. Having spent some time in Cape Town previously we had decided to stay here as it was recommended as the place to stay being one of the top hotels in Cape Town.

It did not get off to a good start – we arrived early at 12.30 and were told our room was not ready, this we had expected and we were offered complimentary tea/coffee whilst we waited for it to got ready. After 2 hours we still had not got a room whilst we noticed that others arriving later were being shown to their room after no more than ½ hour wait. Finally my wife went to enquire when our room would be ready. We were told it still wasn’t ready and we were given an alternative. We were shown to our room and as soon as we walked in I commented that I could smell cigarette smoke (we had requested a non- smoking room). We were assured in a somewhat haughty manner that it was non-smoking and if we wanted to complain we could. We did some minimal unpacking and went straight out to the V&A Waterfront not returning until after our evening meal. Despite the window being open it still smelled of cigarette smoke. The following morning I noticed a sign on the desk “smoking area”. We immediately went to reception to complain. We were advised that this hotel does in fact allow smoking in designated rooms – which ours was one. We then enquired as to why we weren’t allocated our original room – no good reason was given. (A shrug of the shoulders). The hotel policy clearly states that rooms will be ready for occupation from 2.00 pm onwards. (Ours was not)

We asked to be moved to a non-smoking room to which the reply was we will see what we can do in about ½ hour. We went to have breakfast and returned 40 minutes later to enquire about the progress. None, “we will see what we can do you will have to wait, a room will have to be cleaned and this could take some time”. This was totally un-acceptable from this quality of hotel. It was only on demanding to see the Duty Manager that any progress was made and we were re-allocated a room and our luggage moved within the hour. (We still do not understand why we could have the original room allocated to us). The Duty Manager was apologetic and indicated that the “hotel” would do something special to make up for the inconvenience of the need to change rooms. (The something special was ½ bottle of red wine!!)

The only meal we took in the hotel was breakfast. As expected for such a large hotel this was a Buffet. It was very good with an exceptionally wide choice of both hot and cold food although at times it did become a “free for all”

The rest of the stay was uneventful though obviously coloured by this initial experience.

This is supposedly one of the top three hotels in Cape Town on the V&A Waterfront – we were disappointed and consider it to be only average and on any future visit to Cape Town will not be stopping here.

This is, however, my first stay at this property. Excellent service, well maintained. Staff are extremely well trained and competent. A joy to stay here! Expensive but worth all that I paid so the value equation works for me. Excellent location right in the V&A. I will stay here again in the future.

Stayed for 2 nights. On arrival was not really greeted at reception but straight away was asked for my credit card!! I explained that payment was already taken for one night an was surprised they wanted payment + ZAR 1000 to cover any further expenses!!!
Taken to room typical of this style hotel but could do with modernising. We found the toilet light was not working even though I was informed that the rooms are always checked by a supervisor The shower head is very small an inefficient an the shower water takes a while to drain away. This was not acceptable especially for the price we paid for the room!
Breakfast is very good but you can't sit outside because of the Gulls but nothing is done by the hotel to discourage the birds an food and customers gets messed on!!! Lots of staff in the breakfast area but they stand around talking an service is slow an not as attentive as you would expect from this class of hotel. Staff in other areas of the hotel were very good
I would not stay here again as there are other hotels in the area that are 5*

Lovely hotel with a great view of Table Mountain. Splendidly located at the Waterfront. The room was nice, big and impeccable, the breakfast fabulous and the staff attentive. What more can I say? Just amazing! I would recommend it to everyone who is thinking of going to Cape Town.

Room Tip: Table Mountain View is a must.

We stayed here recently, as the last leg of a 4 stop holiday in and around Cape Town. We decided to pay more for the last leg, and so were expecting something of a high quality, but our findings surpassed our expectations. The Hotel is beautiful. And so convenient for the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront, which has such a wonderful vibe to it. The staff are all so helpful, you won't believe. From the waiters serving breakfast, to the Concierge Desk, to Reception, everybody was so helpful, courteous and polite. The breakfasts are incredible - more than 250 dishes available in the buffet, apparently. We had a disabled access room, and without doubt, this is the best such room we have ever stayed in. Beautifully appointed. Wonderful views. And it seemed the same as the other rooms, apart from being completely wheelchair accessible (with walk in shower, grab rails etc. There is also a full bath as well as the shower). This is without doubt one of the best Hotels we have stayed in anywhere in the world, and we've stayed in quite a few. You do pay more for it, so if money is your priority, this maybe not for you. There is no doubting it is value for money though. And their charging structure is certainly a pleasant surprise, in that if a drink costs 15 Rand in a shop / Cafe outside, they charge pretty much the same. Very different to London Hotels that can we whack the price of a drink of Coke up to 6 or 7 pounds. For a bit of luxury, this Hotel is fabulous.
Disability Access Info (My opinion)
The Hotel is completely wheelchair accessible. There isn't anywhere we couldn't get to. Including the pool area, and into the Victoria and Alfred Shopping Mall direct from the Hotel. And of course, the staff are always willing to help with whatever your query is, so even if you didn't have a companion, I think you could manage.

Stayed in this hotel in a junior suite for four nights during a conference trip early March 2014. Very nice stay. The location by the waterfront is superb. Lots of nice restaurants and shops within easy walking distance. Safe area to walk around.

The hotel staff is helpful and professional. Everything worked fine and my small requests (like a take away breakfast for early depature daytrip) were fullfilled with a smile. The breakfast as wonderful, but if you eat it outside on the terrace, beware of the seagulls. If you leave your plate unattended for half a minute, some of its contents will disappear. The waiters did not consider this as a problem.

My room on floor 8 had an absolutely stunning view to the Table Mountain!

For a tour around Cape Town I recommend taking the hop on / hop off bus tour. Buy your tickets to the Table Mountain cable car in advance from the internet and visit the mountain during the bus tour.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on floor 4 or higher with a view to the Table Mountain - it is stunning!
