Having for some months been looking forward to our holiday in Thailand, we were in a distressed state when Bangkok Airport was closed by protesters, and a last minute holiday to Capetown was definitely expected to be second best, especially when Virgin Express decided to delay our flight overnight and dumped us in the awful Park Inn at London Heathrow. But once we finally arrived in Capetown, Parker Cottage was beautiful, and the owner (Phil) helped us to de-stress very quickly. Breakfasts were delicious, with lots of individual touches, and provided at a time to suit our day. The room was brilliant, stylish and comfortable. Wine and nibbles in the early evening were an unexpected (and free) luxury. Internet access at no charge enabled me to book the next stops on our tour, and Phil sorted out car hire and taxis for me as well. Everything was first-class and individually arranged. In the end we stayed in Parker Cottage for eight nights and we would definitely stay there again. "Guest House" is a phrase which has many meanings, but in South Africa it invariably means a very high standard of accommodation: Parker Cottage is one of the best.

This is a fabulous B&B with a great location - easy access to Table Mountain, Long Street area and by taxi, to other spots in Cape Town. This is a very roomy and excellently appointed establishment that is expertly operated by Phil and Liz. Phil is particularly adept at greeting all guests and is very accomodating with any reasonable request and even some unreasonable ones.

The beds were extremely comfortable (at least in in room 6) and the bathroom had a deep, claw's foot tub and a separate shower stall as well. The bedroom, parlors and dining room were all spotlessly clean. Fresh flowers were in the entrance foyer and both parlors and they provided a terrific floral scent throughout the building. The breakfasts were fresh, generous and delicious. We were made to feel very welcome and we did feel extremely comfortable.

I'd strongly recommend this establishment to any Cape Town visitor.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Welcome to Parker Cottage! We’re a little different than the usual hotel or guesthouse experience. Rather than being just a conventional ‘place to sleep’, we offer a very much unplugged, urban retreat right in the creative heart of Cape Town. So although we offer free and fast internet, we don't do minibars, piped music or even reception desks. Think of us like a country house in the middle of the city. We’re the kind of place where you can rediscover the art of conversation, endless breakfasts and total serenity. Parker is a social place too: our legendary free wine evenings occur at least twice a week and there’s no ‘cut off’ time for our gourmet breakfasts either. ... more   less
