“Great location!”
Reviewed 30 November 2011

Really nice business hotel. Not much character but great five star standard.

Good location with a courtesy bus (goes every half hour) to the waterfront. Bar good with a reasonable wine list. Breakfast very very good with a huge buffet cost. Check out the juice bar for some very interesting concoctions.

Rooms are a good standard. Pool and sauna/spa on the 19th floor with great views over the sea and harbour area.

I'd thoroughly recommend this hotel to others visiting Cape Town.

Room Tip: Higher up will have better views. Worth asking for a higher floor potentially.

We have always enjoyed our stays at this Westin hotel. We have been visiting the Cape Town area since 2008. We have tried the Bed & Breakfast way, but can’t beat the beautiful rooms at the Westin, as well as the upstairs Spa!

My last stay was April 2011, as I participated in the Two Oceans half marathon. I understand there were at least 20 guests who ran in the event, yet the hotel did not plan for a shuttle to the race, and guests had to make own arrangements by taxi, etc. Of special mention and appreciated, however, was the lovely “power” food spread that was set up for the runners, that morning.

The Lobby is huge and attractive. The Reception staff is hit or miss regarding a warm welcome. Sometimes, when it gets busy, and it does, they just do their job politely, but that’s all. Guest Services, as mentioned by another guest, can work on their handling of customer queries and requests. Sometimes they are very accommodating, and other times, guest requests falls on deaf ears.

We are Platinum level guests, so we have always been upgraded to what seems like junior suites; I love the very large rooms, with a living room, desk area, and separate living area. Very much enjoy the bathroom, especially the shower. The cleaning ladies do a super job, and love that Westin bed and crisply ironed bed linens!

The Executive Lounge has gorgeous views of Table Mountain and the City. The staff is typically lovely and they are super attentive, as well as accommodating. We enjoy the complimentary wine and other drinks which are offered after 5 pm. The canapés are delicious and artistically presented to guests. There are two computers here, offering free internet.

Breakfast at the Executive lounge has always been my favorite event at the Westin, and I absolutely love the oysters that are served here… terrific service, and the food is expertly prepared. The staff is wonderful; they always seem to remember mel!! One time we had a 8:00 am flight back to Luanda, Angola, and the Food/Beverage manager offered to serve breakfast to us at 5:30 am, before the restaurant was even opened, now, that’s service!

We have eaten once or twice at the Sushi bar; we always have nice chats with the sushi chef, but the food isn’t really that great; it’s best to go to the V&A for a great dinner.

There is a free shuttle to the V&A, and it works perfectly well… there is no need to spend money on taxis.

The Spa

The spa is beautiful, wit great views, etc. I’ve used it and enjoyed it. I have also used the beauty services, such as pedicure/manicures, and while the attendants are lovely, etc., the prices are really high.. I think I paid over R900 for both services.. .which is extremely high.

The little salon across from the Executive Lounge offers all salon services.. I've had my hair cut there, and the ladies do a great job!

Summary

This hotel is not perfect, but it sure comes close to being that. Overall, we really like staying at this hotel, the convenient location, etc. The front personnel can work on being a little friendlier when they get busy. We understand that sometimes we guests can be demanding, but South Africans are known to be super friendly, so, Front desk staff… cheer up!

While there is free wi-fi in the rooms (with password), I think it's a plus to have several computers by the lobby, which guests are free to use, and can access the internet at no cost with a password supplied by the Concierge.

Overall, management is doing a great job, and I know we will return once again, for sure, for the Two Oceans in April!

Room Tip: Request rooms facing the V&A in the distance, or Table Mountain...

We stayed there for 3 nights. This hotel is good situated and has a free shuttle to the waterfront that runs every 30 minutes. Clean and has a nice staff. The rooms are quite new with large bathrooms. We had only breakfast there and it was very good. Unfortunately we had some problems with our internet connection in our room and only after 2 hours waiting and 4 phone calls to the express service number, somebody came and fixed this problems.

My wife and I took a trip to South Africa in April 2011. After 5 days on safari in the bush, we really enjoyed our stay at The Westin Capetown. The staff were very courteous and helpful, from the doorman to the concierge. We had a wonderful breakfast buffet at the hotel that was very good. The rooms were very well organized, well designed and decorated, and roomy. It was a very nice place to stay at a reasonable price. I highly recommend it.

Me and my wife stayed at the Westin Cape Town, although some of the reviewers don't find it a true 5 star establishment i think they are still doing a very good job. Rooms are big, clean and neat, staff helpfull and friendly although sometimes incapable. Cultural difference have to be taken into account in that matter though. In general i'd recommend this hotel for any stay especially at the rates they offer (stayed for 100 euro's/night including breakfast for two). I travel a lot (+50 nights a year away) and this hotel is a VERY good hotel in my opinion

Breakfast is just a feast, absolutely everything is available. Dining in however is less advised, there are far better restaurants just minutes away.

Not to be missed is the view from the jacuzzi in the 19th floor!

We stayed at the Westin for 5 nights in November 2011. The hotel is central for the main Cape Town attractions and is located next to the conference centre making it easy to find. The hotel has a large carpark and offers a regular free hotel shuttle bus to anf from the V & A waterfront, which is an excellent service! The rooms are clean, well furnished and comfortable. The breakfast buffett is of a very good standard and the hotel staff are very attentive. This is an ideal hotel if you are in Cape Town sight seeing or on a business trip; and is of the high standard expected of the Westin brand. However if you want to lounge by an outside pool or experience an African themed hotel - this is not the hotel for you! Overall this is a comfortable, safe, well presented city centre hotel with exceptionally helpful staff.

Room Tip: The free shuttle bus to and from the V & A waterfront is well worth using!
