“Nice Hotel, but lacking a "Lounge Bar"”
Reviewed 24 January 2013

This is a lovely hotel with lovely rooms and a nice restaurant serving excellent food. The only thing it lacked in my opinion was a nice lounge area. There is lots of soft seating dotted around in the lobby, but nowhere comfortable to sit where you can be served drinks (except the smoking bar upstairs!).
The service was excellent, staff very helpful and rooms spotless. Would go back, but only for an overnight convenience stay as I didn't feel it provided any area for relaxing and chilling out with friends.

Room Tip: Ask to be on upper levels with view over the city

Stayed at the Westin for three nights recently, on the Club floor (16th) and thoroughly enjoyed it. The room had a great view towards the V&A waterfront and docks area, you could see out over the bay to Robben Island. Breakfast and cocktails were served on the 19th floor, again spectacular views through almost 360 degrees. Breakfast was excellent with lots of choice.
One of the best things was the shuttle to the V&A which ran half hourly from 9am until 2330, a real bonus. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Didn't have any meals there except breakfast but restaurant on 19th would have great views especially at night.

I have been staying regularly at this hotel, that is my choice for Cape Town. It has the best overall service standard for the whole of this city, combined with excellently furnished rooms and suites.
I would recommend the executive floor, as, apart the stunning views over Table Mountain and the city, you will be enjoying breakfast on the top executive lounge :this one is a marvellous experience, a lavish full breakfast, that include fresh oysters, a variety of seafood, speciality breads, cokkedc eggs, assortment of cheeses and fresh fruits in abundance, combined with freshly squeezed orange juice. The whole combined with 360° views over the whole of Cape Town at your feet.. .
Everything in this hotel, from the moment you are welcomed at reception is an experience of being treated as a special guest!
And try the spa, it has an unique atmosphere!
I strongly recommend this hotel for your stays in Cape Town.

Room Tip: Ask for an executive room, or for a high floor room.

I've got a feeling that I got a dud room rather than the hotel being awful. I've stayed in other Westins before, but never this one, so I know that the standards are usually high. I stayed here for one night, but the coffee machine didn't work (which I only discovered at 5am when needing that crucial first cup), there were some rather interesting stains on the bathroom wall which only showed up when there was steam rising out of the bath, making me wonder when last the wall was wiped down and the wifi gave up after about 20 mins of use.

Then there were issues with the door - I came back from dinner to find my room door open, I assume from after the turn-down service (fortunately everything was as I left it in the room) and after returning from breakfast, my keycard steadfastly refused to let me into my room (but did let me on to the concierge floor I was staying on). The receptionist who recoded my card thankfully came with me back to the room as the card still didn't work and he to use his card to let me in. Another very minor quibble was that the spa towels are tiny!

Now that I've got all the bad stuff out of the way, here's the good: The staff I came into contact with were all wonderful - attentive, helpful and really tried to sort out the various issues I was having. The views from my room on the 16th floor were spectacular and breakfast on the 19th floor meant staring for far too long at the mountain and the harbour.

My Husband and I stayed at the Westin Cape Town for our Honeymoon. Simply put, we LOVED this hotel. We are loyal Starwood customers and rate this one among our favorites.

Location: The location is Great. It is located nearby the waterfront and within walking distance of the Long Street area. There is a VERY convenient and Free shuttle to take you to the waterfront if you dont' feel like taking the 10-15 minute walk. We often walked to the waterfront and took the shuttle back in the evening.

The Hotel: We had a great room with a Gorgeous view of the harbor. The hotel offers free Wi-Fi in the common areas and in your room. We just had to get a password each day. However, the password didn't work very well with our I-Pads. A quick call to the front desk cured this when they brought a router to our room. We had NO problems after that.

The room was quite spacious and the bed was comfortable. But, the Best part of the accomodations was the bathroom. It was huge with a beautiful sunken tub and seperate shower. And, the Heated Floors was a Very nice touch! We actually came home and did some research on how to remodel our home to included heated floors! lol

The spa and pool is lovely with a great view of Table Mountain from the jacuzzi. The gym was small but well stocked.

Food: We ate at the breakfast buffet a few times and found it to be pretty good. The fresh omelets and warm bread were always a great start to the day. However, we found better values for breakfast. Dinner at the hotel was Outstanding and Well worth the price. I highly recommend the lamb and the pork belly. The Malva pudding was so good that we ordered it Everywhere we went for dinner in Cape Town. However, none were as good as the Westin's.

The bar was also good and we spent a few evenings sipping Lovely South African wine downstairs. We did try the upstairs lounge once, but the smell of cigarette smoke was bothersome.

The food and accomodations of this hotel are excellent, but it truly the Staff that makes the difference. We encountered the Nicest people at the front desk, bars, restaurants and throughout the hotel who truly made us feel welcome. We plan to return to Cape Town soon and will definitely stay at the Westin.

A modern hotel, glass and steel, about 15 mins walk from the Waterfront...yes,contrary to the marketing,it is NOT on the waterfront. Upsides; excellent bedrooms, good beds, views of the town.Breakfast buffet has good selection but cooked food tends to be warm not hot. Smoking bar and outside terrace. Polite staff mostly well trained. Good gym,spa and indoor pool. Free shuttle bus to V&A Waterfront every 30 mins. Downsides; Security is a big issue very easy for strangers to wander in ,we lost loose change left in room. No outside pool or terrace, lack of hotel restaurant choice. Security is a major issue in Cape Town and you are advised to travel by car or taxi.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor with view of Table Mountain.
